Governor Newsom will find out today if he can call himself a Democrat on the ballot. He will find out Friday, as we all will, just how many people want to run against him. That number is over 70 right now.

With all the concerns over drought and climate change, there is new thinking about how to deal with changes related to the environment and automobiles.  

Asking big questions related to climate is the focus of an effort by Stanford University analyzes the role of automobiles in access to “clean energy,” and how transportation can be more equitable.

Recently, with the release of some Census data, it has become clear that certain states, such as California, will likely lose congressional seats. This has raised an important question beyond just what is happening with our state's population. A broader question of just how, “Democratic,” or, “Republican,” a state is, has come up.  Are some states so deeply blue or red that this leads to more members of Congress from one party or another winning elections? The regulation of tech companies remains a hot topic of debate. A recent package of antitrust bills in the house brought together an unexpected coalition of California representatives speaking out strongly against the legislation. And as we’ve been reporting on KCBS, former President Donald Trump is also continuing his battle against social media companies, announcing on Wednesday a lawsuit against the platforms that banned him. As we learned last week, we now have a date set for the Recall Election again Governor Gavin Newsom on September 14th. The election is practically around the corner and has led to some conventional wisdom that the timing favors the target of the recall, Governor Newsom. One of the Governor’s staunchest critics in the legislature, Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, today announced he’s joining the fray as a candidate.
