It hasn’t gotten as much attention as some of the other ballot measures, but Proposition 24--a major consumer privacy initiative on your November ballot--would expand protections for online privacy and create a new state agency to enforce the laws protecting your data.
Prop 24 was put on the ballot by Alastair MacTaggart, the Bay Area real estate developer who helped create the state’s landmark privacy rights act two years ago. But he doesn’t feel it has enough teeth, and companies have either been ignoring it or trying to get around it, so he’s back, with Prop 24.
We’re going to bring you both sides of this controversial measure on Monday, starting with YES on Prop 24, which was just endorsed by Consumer Reports.
On "The State of California." KCBS Radio political reporter Doug Sovern and news anchors Patti Reising and Jeff Bell spoke with Carmen Balber with the nonprofit group Consumer Watchdog.
For the opposing point of view, they spoke with Mary Ross with NO on 24.
