We continue our series, Living the Declarations of Romans 8, with a life-changing truth: we are alive in the Spirit. Romans 8:5-11 asks us to consider the direction of our lives. Are we following the pull of control, comfort, and approval, or allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us into life and peace?

Good intentions can't change your destination if you're traveling in the wrong direction. Through everyday examples of people-pleasing, conflict, and anxiety, this message explores how Jesus takes our sin, gives us His righteousness, and places His Spirit within us. For those who belong to Christ, struggling with sin doesn't mean returning to condemnation. The Spirit lovingly redirects us, reshapes our desires, and reminds us that the God who raised Jesus will raise us too. This week's invitation is a simple prayer: "Holy Spirit, I have life in you. Redirect me."

What if God wants to do more than simply change your circumstances?In Exodus 7–9, we enter the middle of God's rescue operation for Israel. Moses and Aaron repeatedly stand before Pharaoh with the same command:“Let my people go, so that they may worship me.”As plague after plague falls on Egypt, God demonstrates His power, confronts the false gods and security of Egypt, remains faithful to His word, and gives Pharaoh opportunity after opportunity to respond.But there's something bigger happening than simply getting Israel out of Egypt.God wants to be known.And Israel wasn't rescued merely so they could experience freedom from slavery. They were rescued for worship.The same is true for us.Through Jesus, we aren't simply rescued from our sin so that we can go back to living life on our own terms. We are rescued for a purpose—to know God, worship Him, serve Him, and walk in the good works He has prepared for us.Sometimes we ask God to change our circumstances when what He ultimately wants to change is our hearts.Pharaoh repeatedly experienced God changing his circumstances, but his heart remained hard. Why does God rescue?We often think of rescue as God making our circumstances better—removing the hardship, fixing the problem, or finally giving us the freedom we've been asking for.But Exodus 5–6 gives us a deeper answer.God rescues so that He will be worshiped.As Moses steps into God's rescue plan, things don't immediately get better. In fact, they get worse. Pharaoh refuses to listen. The Israelites become discouraged. And Moses begins to question whether he's even the right person for the job.But God hasn't lost control.In Exodus 6, God reminds Moses who He is and what He has promised to do. God's rescue isn't ultimately about making life comfortable. It's about displaying His power, making His name known, and bringing people into worship of Him.As we look at Pharaoh, the Israelites, and Moses, we see three different ways our hearts can respond when God doesn't work the way we expect.Maybe you don't know who the Lord is.Maybe you know Him, but you're struggling because life doesn't seem fair.Or maybe you're like Moses, wondering if your failures, weaknesses, or inadequacies could somehow derail God's plan.The answer is the same:Look to Jesus.God's rescue is ultimately displayed most clearly in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Have you ever felt unqualified for what God was asking you to do?Moses certainly did.After being rescued as a baby, raised in Pharaoh's household, fleeing Egypt after killing an Egyptian, and spending years in Midian, Moses encounters God in one of the most significant moments in the story of Exodus.
