The Steeler Culture Podcast

Today was the NFL deadline for teams to trim their rosters to their initial 53-man roster and the Steelers made a few surprising cuts, including nickel CB Beanie Bishop. This comes after he played zero snaps in the last preseason game, and the CB room saw a lot of new faces this past offseason. Steelers releasing Beanie Bishop is upsetting but the reality is he had no role outside of good depth. The Steelers initial 53-man roster is not the physical roster going into week 1 so the Steelers will continue to make moves throughout the week to fill spots. Rookies Will Howard and Donte Kent made the roster but are expected to hit IR, designated to return. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com

The Steelers defense is regarded as one of the best defenses in the league due to players like TJ Watt and Cameron Heyward. The Steelers defense came away with a tying league lead 33 takeaways last season. In the offseason, the Steelers have bolstered the defensive line and cornerback position heavily, trying to fix the run defense and coverage capabilities. This adds more to the Steelers defense and the hope is Teryl Austin and Mike Tomlin will open things up and add more blitz packages.
