But what does that actually mean? And how can you start to work with it? In this episode Katie looks at some of her own moments of Imposter Syndrome and explains how she faces it and helps her clients to get through it as well. We also discuss the presence of bias and how that might create the illusion of imposter syndrome.

These two Stanford Business School professors (and improv actors) take us through why we should be using more humour at work and how to get started. If you think that requires being a comedy genius you’d be wrong. How about creating more opportunities for levity, finding moments of delight and bringing a bit more joy to the workplace (and life)?
In this episode, Katie highlights the parts of the book she found most interesting and shares some of her own views on humour and leadership. It’s a great book if your looking to lead in a more connected, authentic and effective way, and also have some fun with your teams, after all we are people not just resources.

Vishal and Katie have just finished running a career training and coaching programme at a top business school and they managed to sit down at the airport on the way back to get the Raise Your Voice episodes back on track.
They talk about what they've been doing, why they do it and how it impacts their clients. Beyond this they discuss how these interactions impact them and change the direction of their own stories.
In a new take on sharing our stories, we asked for a prompt question (and got a really difficult one): What’s the internal story you’re telling yourself? Katie has a stab at answering this while Vishal escapes.

In the first episode of 2022, Katie talks openly about the grief of losing her brother Toby in early January, as well as how that has reopened the feelings of loss of the rest of her family of origin. As heavy as that sounds, we try to do this in a light way, hoping to encourage others to be open about their losses and not suffer them alone.
We look particularly at the importance of stories in dealing with death and loss as well as some creative rituals that can help with learning to operate in the world without the person you’ve lost. above all we talk about the need for human connection.

We discuss, how design is an integral part of life, teaching and education; how using creativity to look at problems from different angles can help you overcome even the most complex issues; how creating safe spaces for experimentation develops and values other types of intelligence and much more.
This is our last episode of 2021, we’ll be back in the new year in the second week of January.

In this Raise your Voice episode, Vishal and Katie discuss the challenge of defining a “personal brand” while allowing yourself a somewhat fluid identity and complexity, how that connects with showing vulnerability in storytelling and life and what role language plays in all of this. We also share our stories on intelligence, taking you into Vishal’s head and over to Guatemala in the late 90’s.

In this month’s solo episode, we look at the interaction between play and focus in a creative process, something hinted at by all our guests this month. Katie shares how she applies this in creating abstract art and theatre as well as courses for executives. We learn some things from children, the masters of play, and delve into how we might choose to be more playful (since most of us are better at the focus part).
We mention the book, Playful Parenting by Lawrence J. Cohen (sorry for nor remembering who wrote it while recording). For a more scientific examination of why play is important you can also check out “Play, how it shapes the brain, opens the imagination and invigorates the soul” by Stuart Brown M.D.

In this extra creative life episode, Katie speaks with Cyril Moulin Fournier, who uses his learnings from being abducted by Boko Haram to demonstrate how to unlock the human potential to face adversity and uncertainty.
Cyril tells us how it was his innate creativity and relearning how to tap into it that helped him, and his family get through the ordeal. He explains how he used writing to make sense of his experience as well as a way of raising his voice and how sharing his understanding is helping others. We also chat about how Cyril incorporates creativity into his life and his recommendations for others, no matter how creative they feel they are.

This month our Creative Book Club reads “Against Creativity” by Oli Mould. This was a book we choose because it seemed to have a different approach to most creativity books, and it did not disappoint. Whether or not you agree with the key message of the book, you will find ideas that will make you question your own role in the so-called Creative Class.
Certainly not a light read, Against Creativity, highlights the role of the creative class in the maintenance of the Neo Liberal status quo. Looking at work, people, politics, technology and cities, the author takes us through the many ways in which he believes the idea of creativity has been coopted by capitalism to maximize profit and minimize collective power.
