What does it actually mean for your household to serve the Lord?

In the final episode of As For Me and My House, Steve Pixler explores a powerful biblical truth:

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost recentered worship in the Spirit-filled household.

In the Old Covenant, worship was centered in the temple at Jerusalem and mediated through an appointed priesthood. But Malachi prophesied that a day was coming when God's name would be great among the nations and incense would be offered to Him “in every place.”

Through Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, God's presence would no longer be confined to a temple made with stones.

We have become His temple.

Every believer has access to God. Every believer can pray. Every believer can carry His presence. Wherever God's people go, His presence goes with them.

Then Pentecost happens—not in the temple, but in a house.

The Spirit is poured out on ordinary people: sons and daughters, young and old, men and women. Peter declares:

“The promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off.” — Acts 2:39

The promise begins with me, moves into my house, and then reaches those who are far off.

That's why the household matters.

The church gathered is essential—but Christianity was never intended to remain inside a church building. If we worship Jesus at church but fail to carry His presence home, we cannot transform our culture.

Transformed people → transformed families → transformed churches → transformed culture.

Acts 2:42 gives us a simple pattern for bringing worship home:

THE WORD — the apostles' teaching
KOINONIA — fellowship and blessing one another
THE TABLE — breaking bread and communion
PRAYER — seeking God together

Jesus says in Revelation 3:20, “I stand at the door and knock.” He wants to come in and sit at our tables.

It's time to put down the phones, turn off the distractions, gather around the table, and welcome the presence of Jesus into our homes.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

When Your Faith Comes Under Fire

“As for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped.” — Psalm 73:2

What happens after you make the decision, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”—and suddenly it feels like all hell breaks loose?

In Episode 4 of As For Me and My House, Steve Pixler turns to Psalm 73 and the struggle that often follows a decision to stand for God.

When you contend for your family, marriage, children, integrity, or faith, you may encounter resistance. And one of the enemy's most effective weapons is getting you to question whether following God is worth it.

Asaph knew God was good, but what he saw around him seemed to contradict what he believed. The arrogant prospered. The dishonest succeeded. The wicked were popular. Meanwhile, doing the right thing seemed to bring difficulty.

His conclusion became dangerous:

“All in vain have I kept my heart clean.”

Comparison distorted his perspective. Disappointment became bitterness. He began second-guessing himself and questioning God.

Then Psalm 73 gives us one powerful word:

UNTIL.

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.”

In God's presence, Asaph's perspective changed. What appeared permanent was temporary. What looked like success was an illusion. He stopped viewing life from the snapshot of his present circumstances and began seeing it from heaven's perspective.

And in the middle of his struggle, he discovered something even greater:

God had never let go of him.

“You hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel…”

Our salvation does not ultimately depend upon how tightly we can hold onto God. God has a grip on us.

Asaph finally declares:

“But as for me, it is good to be near God.”

Steve closes with three practical instructions for anyone fighting to remain faithful:

1. Guard your mouth.
Don't allow bitterness to become your narrative and sabotage the generations coming behind you.

2. Go to church.
Don't allow disappointment to isolate you. The sanctuary can restore perspective when circumstances have distorted it.

3. Get close to God.
Pursue His presence through prayer, praise, worship, and His Word.

Your feet may almost slip. You may become exhausted trying to understand. But don't surrender your faith because of what you see right now.

God is not finished.

The Power of One Decision

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15

What could happen in your family if one person completely surrendered to Jesus?

In Episode 3 of As For Me and My House, Steve Pixler continues exploring Joshua's declaration and the restoration of the Kingdom household.

The spiritual battle for dominion is fought on the front lines of everyday life—and one of those front lines runs directly through our homes. Whether your household is a large family, a single person, roommates sharing an apartment, or grandparents raising grandchildren, God desires your home to become a dwelling place of His presence.

But household transformation begins with a person willing to say:

“As for me.”

Joshua had a history with God. He remained in God's presence when others went home. He stood with Caleb against the unbelief of an entire generation. He followed God when doing so was unpopular and costly.

His household could follow his declaration because Joshua first embodied it himself.

Religion tries to create the appearance of a godly family. But rules, pressure, and appearances without inward transformation eventually produce hypocrisy.

Kingdom transformation works differently.

Someone becomes willing to repent. Someone apologizes first. Someone stops keeping score. Someone begins praying. Someone opens the Bible. Someone chooses humility. Someone allows God to change them instead of demanding that everyone else change first.

Steve shares candidly how he watched his father model this kind of transformation—and how that example challenged him when he became a father himself.

Repentance doesn't undermine our authority. It strengthens it.

The message culminates in the story of one decision Steve's father made in 1968. Standing outside a church with a cigarette in his hand, the Holy Spirit gripped his heart. He surrendered his life to God—and generations are still living in the fruit of that decision.

Never underestimate the power of one decision.

Stop keeping score for everyone else.

Stop trying to force transformation.

Ask God to start with you.

“I can't speak for anyone else. But as for me, I'm following Jesus with all of my heart.”

Change Starts With Me!

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15

Transformation in your household has to start somewhere.

Why not with you?

In Episode 2 of As For Me and My House, Steve Pixler focuses on the first words of Joshua's declaration: “As for me…”

Before Joshua could declare what his household would become, he had already established a lifetime of personally choosing the presence, promises, and purposes of God.

Joshua stayed in God's presence when others went home. He stood with Caleb when an entire generation surrendered to fear and unbelief. When others turned away, Joshua continued to make the same decision:

As for me.

We cannot demand from our families what we are unwilling to embody ourselves. Household transformation doesn't begin by imposing religious rules on a spouse or children. It begins when one person allows Jesus to transform his or her own heart and becomes a living example of humility, forgiveness, worship, prayer, faith, love, and obedience.

Someone has to embody the change.

In this message, Steve shares the story of his father's life-changing encounter with God as a young man. One decision changed the trajectory of his family and ultimately produced generations of ministry.

He also tells the remarkable story of his great-grandfather, a violent and racist man whose encounter with Jesus in 1932 radically transformed him. His hatred was replaced by love, and much of his subsequent ministry was spent preaching in Black churches throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

One transformed life produced consequences that continued through generations.

You may not be able to make the decision for everyone in your household. But you can say:

“Lord, start with me.”

One decision can produce a cascade of decisions. One transformed life can influence generations. And one person willing to say “As for me” can become the beginning of a completely different future for a household.

There is a battle being fought for families, households, communities, and nations. But where does that battle begin?

At home.

In this first message of the As For Me and My House series, Steve Pixler teaches from Joshua 24 about God's call to establish households devoted to Him.

Joshua didn't begin by pointing to someone else. He declared, “As for me…”

The restoration of the household begins when we personally decide to serve the Lord—and then bring the presence, Word, worship, fellowship, communion, and prayer of the Church into our homes.

What if the future you're afraid of is a future you've imagined without God in it?

Throughout the Get In the Game Teaching Series, we've challenged a passive view of Christianity—the idea that the will of God simply happens while we stand on the sidelines and watch.

In this final episode, Steve Pixler brings the entire series together with a simple declaration:

The will of God doesn't just happen to us. It happens with us, for us, and through us.

You have a role to play.

So play it.

Prayer isn't merely informing God about our plans and asking Him to bless them. Prayer brings divine and human action together. It invites the supernatural power of heaven into the circumstances of earth.

And prayer doesn't replace action.

Prayer empowers action.

God is looking for relentless people who refuse to sit passively by while darkness advances. The circumstances you're facing right now may actually be preparing you for greater responsibility. The struggle may be stretching your capacity to carry greater glory.

So how do we get in the game?

We begin with three things:

Praise. Prayer. Prophecy.

Praise exalts God over the situation.

Prayer brings heaven and earth into partnership.

Prophecy hears what God is saying and speaks His promises into the world.

But eventually, faith has to move.

Moses lifted his rod—and the sea divided.

David swung his sling—and God guided the stone.

Peter stepped out of the boat—and walked on water.

The servants filled the pots—and Jesus turned water into wine.

The people rolled away the stone—and Lazarus came out.

Again and again throughout Scripture, God moved when people moved.

Miracles begin with movement.

And then comes perseverance.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray continually and not lose heart. Faith isn't merely believing strongly enough to make something happen immediately. Sometimes faith is the supernatural ability to keep praying, keep believing, keep speaking, and keep moving when nothing appears to be changing.

Because miracles often happen slowly.

And finally, faith changes the way we imagine the future.

Worry is imagination pointed toward hopelessness.

When we imagine the future and see only ourselves—our inadequacy, our weakness, our lack, our failures—fear takes over.

But everything changes when we ask:

Where is Jesus in the future I'm imagining?

Put Him back into the picture.

See Him working.

See Him providing.

See Him healing.

See Him reconciling.

See Him guiding.

See Him overcoming.

Before you see the victory in your circumstances, learn to see the victory in your Spirit-filled imagination.

Don't imagine a future without God.

Don't imagine a future without miracles.

Don't imagine a future in which the status quo gets the final word.

And don't imagine yourself sitting helplessly in the stands.

No more whatever.

No more que sera, sera.

You have a role to play.

It's time to Get In the Game.

What if the greatest obstacle keeping Christians from changing the world isn't the power of evil—but our fear that we don't have what it takes?

What frightens you?
What keeps you awake at night?
Where have you become disappointed?
Where have you stopped believing anything can change?

Name it.

Face it.

And then draw upon the faith of Jesus Christ within you and do something.

Pray. Serve. Give. Create. Lead. Learn. Build. Intercede. Worship. Help somebody. Solve a problem.

But don't remain on the sidelines.

You are not a victim. You are not helpless. There are remedies hidden in Christ for the situations you face.

God so loved the world that He gave His Son—and He has placed the life of His Son within His people.

It's time to get in the game.

Jesus said we should pray and not give up. But what happens when we pray—and nothing seems to happen?

Daniel 10 gives us a remarkable glimpse behind the scenes.

Daniel prayed for 21 days without receiving an answer. What he couldn't see was that his prayer had been heard from the very first day. An angel had been sent with the answer, but spiritual resistance delayed its arrival.

The delay wasn't caused by God's reluctance.

Daniel's prayer had been heard.

You don't know what's happening beyond what you can see.

The battle is real. Resistance is real. But your prayers matter.

So when the answer is delayed, don't assume nothing is happening.

Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep declaring God's Word.
Keep making war with your words.

Don't walk off the field. Get in the game—and stay in the game.

Angels aren't merely background characters in biblical stories. According to Scripture, they are active participants in God's work in the world—and they have a role in the spiritual battles being fought around us.

But what exactly do angels do?

Jesus defeated the powers of darkness at the cross.

So why is there still a battle?

The answer reveals something essential about the Kingdom of God: Christ's victory is finished, but that finished victory is still being worked out in the real world through His people.
