"Where the bad news is that we’re all inclined towards ‘what’s in it for me?’ dipping in-and-out of committing to God when it’s convenient and it’s not, and we all completely deserve for God to say to us all you’re not really into this are you? The Good News is that HIS love and HIS faithfulness to US is always 100% committed. That he took that 100% justified consequence and punishment for our sins and put it on himself in Jesus to take it away from us. Where we deserve Death, God took our Death in our place to give us life forever."

The Good News of Christianity is that where we are all born spiritually poor and homeless, God in Jesus stepped into that, and opened the way back to him to be saved from that;

to be made acceptable to God again by being given Jesus’ perfect heart, and to re-mold our own hearts more and more to be like his.

In Jesus we are freed from needing to hold on to our material riches self-destructively at the expense of others, and freed to seek God’s Kingdom-will in how he wishes us to USE that in the love and service of him and others.

Sermon for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity (June 23rd, 2024 - Proper 7, Year B)

The Good News is that:

Jesus died in your place so that you might live forever.

Not just any life, not just carrying on ‘as-is’ forever - so much more than that - life growing in perfect, selfless love with God & each other forever.

That news - that simple news - is a game-changer.

It is life, world, & universe-upending for everyone & everything.
