It might sound crazy, but the reality is, making mistakes is indeed good for you. 

Mistakes are inevitable as we are only human and not perfect. Life itself is full of ups and downs. Mistakes are meant to be seen as negative thing but in fact they can be positive. Nothing in life is consistent including our actions and choices. 

Seneca writes in Letter 98.11 What resource do we find, then, in the face of these losses? Simply this – to keep in memory the things we have lost, and not to suffer the enjoyment which we have derived from them to pass away along with them. To have may be taken from us, to have had, never. A man is thankless in the highest degree if, after losing something, he feels no obligation for having received it. Chance robs us of the thing, but leaves us its use and its enjoyment – and we have lost this if we are so unfair as to regret.

If you have goals and dreams in life, and you want to achieve them within a certain period of time, then you need to stop making excuses. Building self-discipline is important so you can avoid making lame excuses. You need to start taking responsibility for your goals by changing your behavior and your lifestyle. Otherwise, you're never to get anywhere near your intended destination.

Mediations 5.1. When you find yourself, in a morning, averse to rise, have this thought at hand: I arise to the proper business of a man: And shall I be averse to set about that work for which I was born, and for which I was brought into

the universe? Have I this constitution and furniture of soul granted me by

nature, that I may lye among bed-cloaths and keep my self warm?

So how do you avoid making excuses to reach your professional and personal goals?

It's quite simple really if you think about it. You need to examine why you are making excuses in the first place. Are you afraid of something? Of failure? Of success? Once you've identified the root cause, it will be easier for you to overcome your excuses and it will be easier for you to attain your goals in life. 

For some reason, many people believe they can simply coast through life and still end up successful. It’s probably the reason why many people fall for get-rich-quick scams. Imagine doing minimal work and raking in bags of cash in return! 

If you really want to succeed, you’re going to put in a lot of time and effort to make it work. You will need to take action. Not only action but the right action. 

Stoic philosophy teaches the discipline of action which guides us on how we should behave in everything we do. 

Discourses 3.21.1 states “They who have merely received bare maxims are presently inclined to throw them up, as a sick stomach does its food. Digest it, and then you will not throw it up; otherwise it will be crude and impure, and unfit for nourishment. But show us, from what you have digested, some change in your ruling faculty; as wrestlers do in their shoulders, from their exercise and their diet; as artificers, in their skill, from what they have learnt. A carpenter does not come and say, “Hear me discourse on the art of building”; but he hires a building, and fits it up, and shows himself master of his trade.”

Taking the right actions through guiding principle can bring fulfillment in life.

Starting and maintaining a gratitude journal can be a difficult task to undertake at first because it is just something else that you have to remember to do every day. However, after a while, the effort you put into showing your gratitude every day will be well worth it in the long run. 

A gratitude journal is a great way to provide acceptance of your situation and the world around you. It is also a great way to reflect on things when ife does not seem to go your way.

Meditations 6.11 states When you find yourself forced, as it were into some confusion or disturbance, by surrounding objects, return into yourself as speedily as you can; and depart no more from the true harmony of the soul, than what is absolutely unavoidable. You shall acquire greater power of retaining this harmony, by having frequent recourse to it.

Continue to push yourself to do it every night until it becomes a habit. The best time to start a gratitude journal is now. 

When negative beliefs and assumptions start to consume you, then you will undoubtedly be unhappy in your life. Ultimately, our perception is our reality, so actively changing the way you look at life can make all the difference. A negative mindset will cloud your judgment, making it difficult to tell when negative thoughts are outside ourselves or a part of our inner psyche.

If you find that negative thoughts and emotions constantly surround you, it may be time to change your mindset. Change can be hard to make and maintain but is necessary.

Meditations 7.18 states Does one dread a change? What can arise without changes? What is more acceptable or more usual to the nature of the whole? Can you warm your bagnio, unless wood undergoes a change? Can you be nourished, unless your food is changed? Or, can any thing useful be accomplished, without changes? Don’t you see, then, that your undergoing a change, too, may be equally necessary to the nature of the whole?

There are different ways to tell when change is necessary.

Anxiety attack symptoms tend to mimic many of the same symptoms as a heart attack and can come on you without any warning. You don’t need to have a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder to suffer from an anxiety attack, they don’t discriminate and can strike anyone. 

A large part of anxiety attacks is our perspective or how we perceive events that occur. This is something Stoicism teaches us to understand.

Meditation 4.3.4 states For the future, then, remember to retire into this little part of yourself: Above all things, keep yourself from distraction, and intense desires. Retain your freedom, consider every thing as a man of courage, as a man, as a citizen, as a mortal. Have these two thoughts ever the readiest in all emergencies: one, that “the things themselves reach not to the soul, but stand without, still and motionless. All your perturbation comes from inward opinions about them.” The other, that “all these things presently change, and shall be no more.” Frequently recollect what changesthou hast observed. The world is a continual change; life is opinion.

Here are different ways that you might be experiencing an anxiety attack. Knowing these can help in dealing with an actual panic attack.

We’re all supposed to believe ourselves, and everyone in their right minds would say they believe in themselves. But when it comes to success, many people lack the belief that they can actually succeed at anything.

Discourses 4.1.1 states He is free who lives as he likes; who is not subject to compulsion, to restraint, or to violence; whose pursuits are unhindered, his desires successful, his aversions unincurred. Who, then, would wish to lead a wrong course of life? “No one.” Who would live deceived, erring, unjust, dissolute, discontented, dejected? “No one.” No wicked man, then, lives as he likes; therefore no such man is free. And who would live in sorrow, fear, envy, pity, with disappointed desires and unavailing aversions? “No one.” Do we then find any of the wicked exempt from these evils? “Not one.” Consequently, then, they are not free.

There are different ways believing in yourself will help you become successful.

Do you know why you are interested or study Stoic philosophy? The one thing it does is to bring change. Change in how we think and act.

In Moral Letters 80.3 For although the body needs many things in order to be strong, yet the mind grows from within, giving to itself nourishment and exercise. Yonder athletes must have copious food, copious drink, copious quantities of oil, and long training besides; but you can acquire virtue without equipment and without expense. All that goes to make you a good man lies within yourself.

But change is not easy. We may sometimes lose motivation to continue. 

Feeling unmotivated? There are plenty of ways you can motivate yourself to finish goals and what you want in life, things that will help you get closer to whatever goals you’ve set for yourself. 

It is amazing how one, simple affirmative action can change so much in someone's life. One of the things that can have a tremendous impact on your life is the realization of the power of gratitude. 

Practicing gratitude can affect every aspect of your life. Knowing you are part of something adds to this. 

Mediattions 10.6.2 states By remembering, then, I am a part of such a whole, I shall be well-pleased with every thing which comes from it. And as far as I am in some manner one of the same family with the parts of the same kind with me, I will be guilty of nothing unsocial; nay, I will rather aim at the good of my kind; turn the whole bent of my will to the public advantage, and withdraw it from the contrary. When I accomplish these things in this manner, my life must needs run smooth and clear: Just so, as you would judge a citizen in a happy flow of life, who was going on in a course of action profitable for his fellow citizens, and gladly embracing whatever is appointed him by the city.

There are different ways incorporating gratitude into your life can change it for the better.

One of the most admirable characteristics a person can possess is persistence. Without persistence, no great achievement is possible. Everyone can set goals and make plans for success; however, only a few succeed in achieving their goals. 

Developing persistence is a way to ensure that you will reach your goals and achieve success. 

Epictetus stated in Discourses 3.12.1 We are not to carry our training beyond Nature and Reason; for thus we, who call ourselves philosophers, shall not differ from jugglers. For it is no doubt difficult to walk upon a rope; and not only difficult, but dangerous. Ought we too, for that reason, to make it our study to walk upon a rope, or balance a pole,† or grasp a statue By no means. It is not everything difficult or dangerous that is a proper training; but such things as are conducive to what lies before us to do.
