*WARNING* This episode covers the abduction and murder of a child, extra care must be taken prior to listening.
It was the 1970's when The Grimmer family decided to spend a hot Australian's summer day on Fairy Meadow beach but what started with sandcastles and splashing in the sea, ended with he disappearance of the a three year old girl.
The Grimmer family had not long moved to Australia from the UK due to dad, Vince, being in the army. Mum, Carole and her four children, Ricky, Stephen, Paul and Cheryl had decided to spend the hot day on the beach, when the weather suddenly took a dramatic turn, Carole started to tidy up their belongings whilst the children when the shower block to clean up, but when cheeky three year old Cheryl refused to come out of the woman's showers, older brother Ricky went to fetch Carole, when they returned to the changing rooms - Cheryl was gone.
Being the 70's police only had witness statements to go on, until 18 months later when a 17 year old boy voluntarily went to police with information on Cheryl's disappearance - but it wasn't just information he had...he also had a confession.
This week, I cover why 55 years after that confession there still hasn't been any charges brought against anyone in connection with Cheryl's abduction and murder.
