During a severe famine, God instructed Elijah, the prophet, to go to Zarephath, where a widow would provide for him. When Elijah arrived, he found the widow gathering sticks and asked her for water and a piece of bread.
The widow explained that she only had a handful of flour and a little oil, just enough to prepare a final meal for herself and her son before they died of starvation.
Elijah told her not to be afraid and instructed her to make a small loaf for him first, assuring her that God would not let her flour and oil run out until the famine ended. Trusting Elijah’s words, the widow obeyed—and miraculously, her supply of flour and oil never ran dry, sustaining her household throughout the famine.
Later, the widow's son fell ill and died. In desperation, she questioned Elijah. The prophet took the boy, prayed earnestly to God, and miraculously restored him to life, strengthening the widow’s faith in God's power.
