In this episode, I will be talking about the lesser-known Italian revolutions of 1820-21, specifically, the revolutions in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and in Piedmont Sardinia.

I will be going into great detail concerning the secret societies operating within Italy, as they played such a prominent role during the early Risorgimento period.

I will also be talking about Modena, Parma and Tuscany, though these states had a much smaller impact during this period.

I will be tackling each state in turn, discussing what survived the restoration and what was lost.

In this part, I will be wrapping up the previous two parts and shall discuss the end of Napoleonic rule in Italy.

Before that, however, I will first be looking at the role the military played in fostering a sense of Italian nationhood. I will then move on to talking about banditry and secret societies within Italy and the role they played under Napoleon and will continue to play in the future.

I shall then lastly discuss the economic implications of Napoleon's time in Italy before finally moving on to the fall of the Napoleonic order.

The fall of Napoleon shall take up the largest portion of the episode as I shall be looking into the power struggles within Italy after Napoleon's demise as well as finally looking back on the legacy that the Napoleonic period would have on

This episode shall focus on the Napoleonic Invasion of Italy of 1797.

I will start by briefly outlining the political conditions of the 18th-century Italian states and introducing important Italian intellectuals such as Pietro Verri and Gasparo Angiolini.

However, the core theme of this episode will be the military campaign itself whose outcome would ultimately define the future creation of the Italian state. I will be describing this campaign from all sides, the French, Austrian and Piedmontese, unlike most historians who have only focused on the French and Napoleon.

This first part will set the scene for 'Part 2' where I shall then go into much greater depth in describing the French occupation of Italy, and how the Italian nation was shaped in these years.
