The Story Of The Christmas Tree
Transcript:
Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. Boniface is the patron saint of Germany, and he’s also the father of the Christmas tree. In the eighth century, the German people still worshiped Thor at this huge oak tree in the German forest. The German chieftain was about to sacrifice his own son at this tree to Thor, when Boniface stopped him and started chopping down this “blood oak” with an ax. Some tried to stop Boniface, but others in the crowd said, hey, if Thor is a god, he can defend his own tree. As Boniface was chopping down the tree, a mighty wind blew the tree down. The German pagans were awestruck, rejected Thor, and converted en masse to Christ. Boniface pointed to a young fir tree, pointing toward the heavens, and said let this tree be a sign of your faith. He called it the tree of the Christ-child. And so the Christmas tree was born.
