About Roselyn Aker-Black, Psy.D-
Dr. Roselyn V. Aker-Black, Psy.D (affectionately known as Dr. Roz) is a native of Rome, Georgia, and currently resides in the Washington, DC metro area with her husband. Dr. Roz received a B.A. in psychology from Fisk University and completed a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the American Schools of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Washington, DC.
Dr. Roz is an award-winning mental health clinician with over 17 years of experience providing psychological services to children, families, and couples in the nonprofit, government, and private industry sectors. She is the interim Chief Executive Officer for the Goal Grinders Foundation. This nonprofit organization provides Leadership and Entrepreneurial training with a STEM Focus for at-risk middle and high school girls.
Dr. Roz’s media experience includes psychological consults with the Anderson Cooper Talk Show (2012), the OWN Network docuseries Unfaithful (2012), the Huffington Post, Fox5DC, and NBC4, and a regular guest appearance on Howard University’s WHUR 96.3 as a relationship expert. Dr. Roz made history as the first African American Series Psychologist on TV One’s limited series, “For My Woman.” She is the host of the Dr. Roz Show podcast. Moreover, Dr. Aker-Black’s work has also been published in International Journals.
She is a sought-after keynote speaker, commencement speaker, and advice columnist for her advice on practical relationship functioning, Human trafficking, Intimate Partner Violence, and Organizational Behavior and Management. Dr. Roz is also a three-time TEDx speaker who presented “Surviving Betrayal” at the TEDx U Street Women’s Conference 2019.
She owns Dr. Roz Therapeutic and Coaching Services, a boutique organization dedicated to helping people function properly in all relationships! Dr. Roz is also an author and co-author represented by 13th and Joan Publications. She is a charter member of the Prince George’s County Women’s Bureau Toastmasters Club and the Vice president and founding member of the Black Door Society.
Some of Dr. Roz’s awards include the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund Forty under Forty, The Daily Records’ Very Important Professional Under Forty, Maryland’s Leading Woman award, 3-time winner of The Daily Records Top 100 Women of Maryland Award and inducted into the Circle of Excellence, North Atlantic Regional Exemplary Citizen Award, Fisk University’s Inaugural Talented Tenth award, the Success Women’s Conference National Top Influencer and Rising Star and the Power Summit 2021 Healthcare Provider of the Year.
Dr. Roz was initiated in the Pi chapter at Fisk University in Nashville, TN, and currently serves in the Xi Zeta Omega chapter in Washington, DC. Regionally, she has served under Reginal Director Connie Pizarro on the heritage committee and helped to develop the My Sister’s Keeper manual to eradicate hazing in the North Atlantic Region. She currently serves as a North Atlantic Mental Health team member on the North Atlantic Ivy Connections under the direction of Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman.
