Emmett Dunn makes his second appearance on the series with a relaxed pod, not entirely focused on footy this time. We catch up with Emmett about the COVID situation and what footy is looking like over in England. Away from sports, we talk a bit about Apple Music and Spotify, Netflix, and reality TV shows. Tune in to hear all about it!
The Student-Athlete Series returns for an episode with Jordan Sambrook, a defenceman for the Brock Badgers Men's hockey team. Before bringing on Jordan as our sole guest for the episode, host Neville Madill provides some updates on the current U Sports season and what it may look like moving forward going into the spring. Jordan Sambrook then joins the episode to talk about his path to Brock University. Jordan talks about his OHL career, including being a part of the 2017 Erie Otters OHL Championship winning team. He also talks about his NHL Draft experience from back in 2016 and why he chose to be a Brock Badger coming off his four-year OHL career.
At the beginning of the episode (0:41), Neville is joined by Kieran Cordy where they talk about some notable Canadian athletes ever since sports came back. Later on in the episode (14:28), Andrew Coe joins The Student-Athlete Series to talk about his journey as a rugby player in Canada. He was able to share when he started playing rugby during his youth and how the recruitment process went for him when he started to look at post-secondary education. He then talks a bit about his time at UBC, including the heated rivalry between the UBC Thunderbirds and the Uvic Vikes. Currently, Andrew represents the senior men's Canadian national rugby team and was able to talk about going to the rugby world cup in Japan back in 2019, where he attained some celebrity status while there for the tournament. At the end of the summer (August 20th), host Neville Madill was able to sit down with the Riverdale Collegiate Institute senior boys athlete of the year, Kieran Cordy. Kieran was able to reflect on his time as a top student-athlete back at Riverdale (1:09) where he was able to be a part of six teams including hockey, baseball, basketball, track and field, curling, and rugby. Later on, Neville and Kieran were able to talk a little bit about the Toronto Maple Leafs and why they weren't able to break through the qualifying round this year (19:34). The boys were also able to talk a little bit about their NHL Playoff Brackets (which did not turn out well) and who looked like they were going to take it back at the end of the summer when the first round of the NHL playoffs was taking place. The episode finishes up with Kieran's take on the Toronto Raptors playoff chances and how the MLB's return to play is panning out (47:20).
Zoe Sherar joins the series to talk about her experience at the University of Guelph as a student-athlete so far. Zoe talks a bit about getting into track and field (2:13) and a little bit of athletic background before her days as a track star. She then gets into talking about the adjustment to post-secondary as a student-athlete and balancing school and studies throughout the year (8:20). At 14:46, Zoe explains why the Guelph Gryphons track and field team is currently so dominant. Host Neville Madill recaps Zoe's participation in international events including World Relays and the FISU Games (17:35) while Zoe explains what she learned from those big stage experiences. The episode wraps up with Zoe explaining a little bit about how she has been involved in the Guelph community (23:15) which contributed to being named a top 8 academic all-Canadian for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Fellow Brock Badger Ethan Low joins The Student-Athlete Series to talk about his unique path on getting to intercollegiate varsity lacrosse. Ethan was able to touch on being a goalie in hockey during his youth (1:30) and how he eventually got into lacrosse in high school at Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute and Everest Academy (2:26). We then recapped the past 2019 fall season for the Brock Men's Lacrosse team (8:47) and what type of changes we might see this upcoming season due to the pandemic. The episode finishes up by talking about ZALE (13:03), Ethan's clothing brand that he co-founds with his buddy Akil Thomas, LA Kings 2018 second-round draft pick. The link is below to their website.

My good friend Emmett Dunn joins The Student-Athlete Series to talk all about being an international student-athlete. Host Neville Madill was able to share some stories about Emmett in his youth that proves his athletic ability was at a much higher level than his peers (3:25). Emmett was able to talk about the Birchmount Exceptional Athlete Program which he was a part of in high school, which focused on how to be the best athlete possible. Emmett then talked about going to England became an option for him and what the change was like for him living in another country. Chichester City FC also had a wild FA Cup run where they were able to get to the second round of the tournament which he was able to elaborate on (22:30). The episode finishes up with a test of Emmett's "The Office" knowledge (32:46).
For episode #4 of The Student-Athlete Series, Arielle Mersiadis-Carrier joins the series to recap her time as a varsity swimmer at Acadia University. As she just finished her undergrad in Kinesiology, Arielle recaps what the change was like when COVID-19 hit (2:05) and explains the unique path of how she eventually became a varsity swimmer (5:24). The episode continues with Arielle talking a bit about the beginning of her time as a varsity swimmer and the adjustments she had to make from 3 practices per week to 10-12 per week (8:10). Arielle was also able to talk about taking a year off from varsity swimming during her second year (11:19) and talks about why this was the right decision for her at the time, along with what she could have done better. Arielle was able to talk about her rollercoaster last season swimming at Acadia University (13:19). She explained a setback injury at the end of September (16:00), qualifying for nationals (18:41), and going to U Sports Nationals in BC (20:44). Arielle also talks about another injury during Nationals (22:40). The episode finishes off by Arielle giving out some student-athlete advice on how to balance school and sport (26:42). Arielle’s grit and drive are very relevant throughout the episode and is clearly one of the hardest working student-athletes out there. The Student-Athlete Series welcomed Emily Armstrong and Meera Sayal of the Brock Women's Volleyball team back on June 26th, 2020. During the show, Emily and Meera started off by discussing the transition into COVID-19 life (2:03). Emily expanded on the scorching start of the season the Badgers had (5:06) and the bubbling rivalry with the U of T Varsity Blues (6:10). Host Neville Madill then debriefs what the OUA Playoffs looked like for the Badgers (12:18), along with reaching Nationals for the first time in Brock Women's Volleyball program history. Emily and Meera were also able to unpack the strange and short-lived experience at Nationals in Calgary, Alberta back in March (14:36) and what could have been a potential headline if the Badgers/Varsity Blues matchup did play out (16:14). The episode finishes up by Emily and Meera talking a little bit about how they are staying fit while there isn't access to gyms and courts (18:15).

Welcome to the Student-Athlete Series! Previously started on IGTV, The Student-Athlete Series has made its way onto podcasting platforms. The series focuses on showcasing student-athletes across Canada. A couple of notes to sum up the transition to podcasting platforms:
