Students and supporters in Madison gathered for a menstrual equity rally near the state capitol as part of National Period Day in October. For today’s episode, Ali sits down with Maggie Di Sanza, founder of the organization Bleed Shamelessly, and student activist Lauren Duhr to learn about the student-led fight for menstrual equality.

Maggie and Lauren discuss the goals of Bleed Shamelessly including destigmatizing periods, increasing access to reproductive healthcare and menstrual products, and ending the tampon tax, all with a goal of fostering bodily autonomy, trans justice, and shame-free open dialogue about menstrual health.

Maggie Di Sanza is a junior at James Madison Memorial High School, where she currently serves as co-president of the Gender Equity Association and a member of the Sexual Assault Prevention Club, GSA, and Student Activist Club. Maggie is the founder of Bleed Shamelessly.

Lauren Duhr is a high school activist who cares deeply about access to comprehensive and quality education, environmentalism, and LGBTQ+ justice.
