She is a former Miss Minnesota High School 2009, Miss Minnesota Teen 2010  and Miss Minnesota 2012!  Brittany, specializes in pageant headshots and gown photos. Her photos have won multiple state and national pageant photogenic awards, with the summer of 2017 bringing home 5 national photo wins. She also has a ton of artistic people in her family who brought her up with the arts in her blood.

• She was able to first hone in on her photography craft with friends and sorority sisters before she began to charge for her services.
• Brittany enjoys doing photography because it is all about self expression and helping others not necessarily just about the money.
• Don't get caught up in other peoples businesses or Instagram feeds and try to find unique inspiration from other places or areas that are related to your industry.
• Favorite misconceptions about photography while discussing with amateurs is they tend to get caught on the technical aspect vs learning the artform of photography
• When she first started she rented out a space which was expensive and that cost carried into her charging more from her clients. Now has converted her basement into a photo studio
• Photography is not the technical side. The people that work with her realize she is trained in light, art and has mastered the interactions
• She has always called herself a photographer and doesn't feel weird about it because she is educated in the art and studies light
• What's difficult about what you are doing? "I am tired, all the time!"
• Brittany put together an ambassador program with a peer and got 40 applicants and selected 5 girls to work with and is continuing to grow and play around with creative visions
• Brittany will be a published photographer in a magazine by the end of 2018.

In this episode of The Successful Side Gig with Adam Hymans you will hear an interview with Lanae from Social Networking Nanny.  Lanae and her team help get businesses on social media and also getting them set down the right path vs platforms that will not suit their businesses well. She was mentioned on Good Morning America which catapulted her business to the next level. Lanae is an outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable entrepreneur who was willing to share some amazing tips with us.

Lanae started slanging things on Ebay when she had young children to make some extra cash. Stumbling onto men's Garcia ties she has actually sourced them and created a private label tie brand as well. Crossing items off of her bucket list owning a tie brand was one of them.

 Key Lessons and take aways from this episode:

• News anchors and reporters were the only ones on Twitter at 5 am and by tagging news anchors she was able to snag an interview which helped her business
• If you put yourself out their and reach out to people you never know who may respond
• Don't be afraid to schedule out your posts if you are in a time crunch
• You need to watch your analytics to see when your audience is online and post during those times not 10am when many people are busy at work.
• Go to charity events, chamber events, local meet ups because you never know where that next connection will come from
• Start a local coffee meetup for likeminded individuals. It was a Twitter contact turned personal friend, Mike Lynner, that sparked this introduction and interview
• If you are not great at something, partner with someone who is!
• Not setting a plan for your social media is planning for failure.
• Put yourself in your customers shoes in order to figure out where to be and what type of content you should share
• Facebook ads is fantastic for reaching your entire audience through targeting.

In this episode of The Successful Side Gig with Adam Hymans you will hear an interview with Stephanie from HeyHonestlyMommy.com a candid and hilarious mommy blog and Instagram page.  Stephanie shares all about the early days as a stay at home mom who wanted to challenge herself to find a way to make money online, satisfy a mild shopping addiction and also share the hilarious moments that come along with motherhood. A blog wouldn't be a blog without a beautiful finely curated Instagram page which she talks all about as well. When she set out on this journey it was to collaborate and make money. It still is but Stephanie really likes helping people get through things she has already been through and networking with other moms.

Key Lessons and take aways from this weeks episode:

• Stephanie always loved writing and her family always told her she was funny even though she wasn't necessarily sure if that was true (it is!)
• If you're in the mood to write, find a way to make it happen. You can use talk to text on your iPhone to either dictate or make small notes and reminders about what you want to write.
• In the beginning it was fun just to see if she could do it! Make money online and build a following
• The first thing that Stephanie did was reach out to a clothing company online through Instagram and have them send her free product in exchange for photos posted on Instagram
• @honestlymommy on Instagram is where you can see all of her photos posted as well as witness her more candid and hilarious Instagram stories!
• Stephanie runs her entire Instagram through photos taken on an iPhone 7 Plus and using Adobe Lightroom
• Because of Geo tags on Instagram she has actually met up with several people and increased her network of Insta mommies!
• It's important to know your brand and if it takes doing an online course to find it it's worth it. Stephanie went through a course by World Nate

In this episode of  "The Successful Side Gig with Adam Hymans" I discuss the very important topic of sleep habits and morning rituals. You know if you are working a full time job, you are raising a family, maintaining a social life and building a business all at the same time, you are probably not sleeping the amount you would like. What if there were a couple quick tips on how to optimize your sleep and start off your morning with a bang!

Key Lessons and take aways from this weeks episode:

Is using a sleep tracker beneficial for you? It was not for me!

• I used an app for over a year that would give me all sorts of data around amount of sleep, how many times I woke up and it ultimately gave me a sleep efficiency percentage. 10% you slept TERRIBLY 100% You don't have kids, slept in a wonderful place for 9.5 hours
• Ultimately I was not using the data to change my behaviors
• Waking up and seeing a low number let's say 37% would make me think "Oh, I did sleep like crap, I feel like garbage"

Sleep temperature

• The ideal sleep temperature that I heard was 66 degrees 
• If you have a programmable thermostat you can adjust the temp to drop during the evening then increasing when you wake up
• Your room temperature will not impact your body temp if you have thick bedding or cozy PJ's :)

Blue Light Exposure

• Using your phone or tablet before bed with the blue light inhibits melatonin production which you need to make you sleepy
• Iphone has a night mode which limits blue light you can turn on at a specific time
• It is not just blue light from your phone but also your activities on your phone that may make it more difficult to get to sleep.

Hydration

• Sleep is dehydrating and that is a fact!
• If you drink too much water and have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night that can disrupt your precious sleep cycles
• Try to limit your intake and have a small glass 30-45 min before bed
• When you wake up, CHUG CHUG CHUG!

The Tim Ferriss JUICE

• Apple cider vinegar, raw honey, warm water
• Too acidic and the flavor wasn't tolerable
• Only mild effects for me

Light

• Eliminate all light from your room
• I found I hated having an alarm clock visible
• Use electrical tape to cover little lights on anything

Morning Routine

Hal Elrod wrote a book called "The Miracle Morning" and I am 21 days into the 30 day transformation challenge. So much of your sleep is impacted by your thoughts about the amount of sleep you think you"Should" get! My miracle morning looks like this

• Wake up one hour earlier than you need to be up
• Do NOT snooze
• Drink water
• 10 min silence
• 10 min affirmations
• 10 min journaling
• 10 min reading
• 10 min work out
• 10 min cool shower

This routine has had an unbelievable impact on my mindset!

In this episode of The Successful Side Gig with Adam Hymans you will hear an interview with Dana Royal with Indie Hatch an amazing Stationary and Wedding Invitation company in Colorado.  Dana shares her amazing story from her gap year, to Art School, working doing video editing at a larger company, all while trying to be a rock star mom! She shares her struggles with office politics and the difficulties of being limited in your creativity. Ultimately being let go from her video production job and having support from them while she was able to look for other positions at a start up company with crazy work hours! Having a child and realizing after maternity leave that working at this job was not for her. Pursuing her passion and having a creative outlet was what she needed from a side gig and Indie Hatch was born.

Key Lessons and take aways from this weeks episode:

• Sometimes it takes time and experience to find what you really want
• Having a child is monumental event and often changes your career mindset
• Etsy was way harder that it seemed at first!
• Continuously having low page views inspired her to look further into Etsy Forums and get down to the nitty gritty.
• Make sure you have beautiful imagery of your products
• You have to sell a lot of items in order to make it on Etsy.
• You will have hard work that takes you no where but you have to persist!
• Occasionally one thing can easily lead to another either idea or career path
• Seeking feedback in forums or Instagram was huge.
• If you have a family: Get your kids on an early sleep schedule that has been huge
• Art school got me used to critique and it is important to seek it out and

5 Tips for balancing work and life:

Scheduling in advance

• Use a shared calendar to keep everyone informed
• Make sure you are supporting anyone else so they can support you
• Schedule out rewards after deadlines

Know everyone's goals including your own

• Do you know your spouse's goals?
• Have you shared details about your own goals with those close to you
• Think long and hard about what you want to achieve in your side gig

Don't let "IT" become a problem

• The "IT" is your side gig
• You can't work so much that it negatively impacts your life
• You know a problem because it impacts your work, social life, health and finances

Grinding causes sparks, sparks cause fires!

• If you plan on grinding you have to beware of problems
• Make sure that if you are always BUSY that you are being productive
• Don't work 19 hours a day if that means no sleep and poor health

Reward yourself for Achievements

• Plan a trip after a goal
• Set aside part of your tax return to pay yourself for achieving
• DO NOT FORGET to celebrate because as a Side Gig owner you have a lot of struggles!

In this episode of The Successful Side Gig with Adam Hymans you will hear an interview with James Jones with Spark DJ.  James is the Co-Founder of Spark DJ, a unique new app that allows an elevated music experience that is DJ inspired. He discusses key moments in the business that him and Co-Founder, John Boss, were able to capitalize on to grow  Spark Dj. Starting off as a DJ to pay his way through college James realized that there may be a way to create an, "Algorithmic Clone" of himself. (I know, a thought that everyone has had before, right?!?)

Key Lessons and take aways from this weeks episode:

• It is important to test everything! It is ok if you have a target audience but learn after release and have to pivot
• In order to test the concept James pre-recorded a DJ set and sold it at a cheaper price as a proof of concept
• While working a day job you can take a long vacation in order to see what you are able to accomplish or if you would enjoy doing your side gig more.
• Being a self taught developer James thought after taking on investment that things would happen faster but its important to have a deep understanding of your finances and timelines.
• Even if you are up against giants as long as you create something and continue to learn and grow you will be successful.
• Make sure if your current day job offers any training, mentoring or personal development courses, take advantage of those freebies to help you learn!
• You can offer free products and services to charities or friends and ask them what they like about it and how much they will pay. You don't have to run A-B tests on the free user base to establish conversion rates, blah blah blah, Just ASK! How much would you pay for something like this?
• Don't keep your side gig a secret, it's all about how you craft your story and show people you are excited about it.
• When looking for a Partner it is great to have a pre-existing bond and a personal connection it helps build trust over hiring one!

Passion:

• To succeed in a new business venture you have to LOVE it.
• If you don't believe fully in your product or service you will not make sales
• Passion = Authenticity which draws people in

Patience:

• You need to build your skills! Ever heard of 10,000 hours?
• Overnight successes do not exist! People have taken time to build relationships, a product, a website, their speaking skills that lead to that rocket moment!
• You can't change your order at a restaurant over and over so why should you be able to change your goals over and over

Persistence:

• The single most telling factor of your success, can you fail often and continue
• Athletes are used to persistence because if you lose a game, you train, practice and try to beat them next game
• Don't let any amount of likes on social media discourage you!
• Have you ever quit because of discouragement?? I hope not!
