This week, Troy sits down in-studio with guests Karl Wooldridge, Jason Slater, and Brandon Weber - three local sports officials with a combined total of over 50 years of experience making the calls. Our kids don't play the games without someone to make the calls and be the "calming influence when the bat guano is raining down from the sky." These are the professional truth-tellers of competitive sports who give up vacation days to meet the needs of sports programs all over the country and do so, often, with little appreciation and even the occasional unfounded vitriol.
Find out what the number one problem in high school sports is, how we may be "worshipping at the church of the child" in modern society, why softball is really arena baseball and when things get testy: "everybody can look at my fingers."
If you think you have what it takes to be an official - let me know by emailing me at [email protected] and I'll make sure we get you in touch with your area officiating group.

This week on the Sunnyside of Life, the studio gets hi-jacked by four boys intent on telling stories about their father: Troy. Who knew they had it in them? Learn all about the host from the perspective of the boys who know him best. Tough love or just a 3-day rule on injuries? Poop too long? Favorite bed time stories from Shel Silverstein, what it sounds like when your dad announces your name of Friday nights and those baseball games and so much more.
Check out Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. Buy it. Read it to your kids. They'll never forget it.
Thanks to Tate, Tanner, Jack and Colin and to Heidi for coming up with the idea in the first place.
Happy Father's Day!

This week we welcome dear college friend and maestro, Joel McNulty, to Sunnyside. Troy and Joel go way back to college. He's full of surprises, encouragement, and humor and he did the interview from the ER! What? Find out why this Kansas City saloon singer stays at the top of Troy's charts and why he'll be at the top of your heart once you hear his words and work....just like Tom Watson.

This special Memorial Day episode was produced using the stories of local veterans from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam who have since passed.
Memorial Day is for active remembrance of those who gave all for this nation.
Hear Troy navigate the produced stories of voices from our past on this week's episode. Men such as: Don Aamodt, Marvin Juhl, Larry Kearney, and Bob VerHoef as well as the family influence of Troy's grand-uncles: James Emerson and Robert Hagerman.
This episode wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of Riley Lewis, Winnebago County Historical Society and KIOW Radio.
Thanks to all for their efforts and we are especially thankful for those who gave all.

A 70 percent increase in military spending in the last 10 years. Sure, we have ding-dongs who've caused a recession and an inflationary debacle but we also are doing it wrong. The money we provide the government will never be enough so you can be sure their solution will be to print more money. Why not? They own the printers.
Here's a couple original ideas rooted in history and victory that may just cause a common sense revolution. Or not.
You be the judge. Enjoy.
Also, check out what an NFL draft might sound like if it were for the military....

This week at Sunnyside we just can't resist taking advantage of a change in recording plans to comment on our illustrious legislation about to pass into law SF496. The Koch-ists ban some books with explicit pictures and descriptions that join books banned previously by the Woke-ists who are hurt by words from Roald Dahl and Mark Twain. In the process, the Senate inadvertently cures AIDS and HPV by process of elimination. We imagine Steve and the legislature's contribution of the word "anus" to legalese, and more. You probably don't want to miss this one.
"Hooray-hooray, it's the first of May! Outdoor ****ing starts today!"

On this episode of the Sunnyside of Life, meet our friend Mark "Spook" Helgeson. He's a man with a special set of skills...that includes making your lawn look like a showcase golf course.
Find out what kind of weed Donald Trump, AOC, Whoopi, and more are according to the Superintendent. Also, you may learn a few things about on-going conspiracies, fishing, and making the kind of pie you can harmlessly drop from a second story window.
Additionally, we introduce a new character: Walker, the Golf Course Ranger and we hypothesize on what other planets may think about Jesus....a skit, based on a conversation recently with son #4.
Check out Mark's work by making a trip and booking a tee time at Bear Creek:
