The Surpassing Worth of Knowing Christ - Philippians 3:1-11

In Philippians 3:1-11, Paul exhorts the believers to rejoice in the Lord and reminds them of their need to stay focused on the true gospel (v. 1). He understands that they have the capacity to be discouraged in their sufferings and may be tempted to place their confidence in the flesh for the assurance of salvation (vv. 2-3). Paul identifies with them, acknowledging that he has more reason than anyone to put confidence in the flesh (vv. 4-6). But he counted everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ and finds in him the righteousness that comes through faith (vv. 7-11). Therefore, let us place no confidence in our flesh for the assurance of our salvation but instead be founded on the righteousness we receive through faith in knowing Christ.
