Yesterday I included a response to a claim by a listener that Walmart was “destroying America”.  In doing so I didn’t claim Walmart was a fine company or that they should be supported.

I simply pointed out that all the big businesses that compete with them did the same types of things.  That a boycott of Walmart would accomplish little and we could actually use large companies like Walmart more effectively to get rid of specific products like “pink slime”.

Now This is a Problem

Well, you guys say I have it wrong, really?  What do I have wrong?  My view is this is a deeper problem where a specific grudge and anger blind people to the truth.  Walmart isn’t the problem, it is but a symptom of the actual problem.

Going to war with Walmart in the current system is like giving a headache patient an aspirin and thinking it will fix the problem.  It might feel better but the problem remains.

This isn’t just a corporate issue, it is a government one and a monetary one, in fact that is the entire point.

When there is an illness if you are a good doctor the symptoms are used only to diagnose the illness and you correct the imbalance in the system that is the root cause.

The reality is if you only treat the symptom, the illness gets worse.  You can cut out a tumor yet a cancer patient will often still die.

So today for the first time when I took the dog for a walk in the early morning there was frost on the car and trucks.  I actually put on my Carhart vs my windbreaker and even put my free (non coffee holding) hand in my pocket for a bit of warmth.

Of course that means winter is on its way.  Sure we have a few months of “fall” to go, at least in the south but this is the time of the year where things seem to accelerate.

So in the tradition of the ant and the grasshopper today I say, winter is coming, are you ready?  If not let’s talk about getting there.

My hope is that this show will make each listener consider and shore up just one or two places that they have put off or forgotten about in preparation for the coming winter.

Some of these choices are about life and death and others are just about preserving some of the special times  of the season, like family visiting during the holidays in relative comfort.  Others may not save your life but may save you hundreds or thousands of dollars by preventing damage due to winter weather events.

I chose the title today in spite of the wackos at the fringe of the “sovereign citizen movement”, not because of them.  In may ways those people have polluted the concept of personal sovereignty but no other phrase really applies to what I want to discuss with you today.

Personal sovereignty basically means “self ownership” and as such is much larger then any political statement.  Someone who truly lives their life based on self ownership must carry far more responsibility then just telling others that they won’t do as commanded.

If You Wish to be Free – First Understand You are a Pawn

The individual sovereign much accept that if they fail the failure is theirs and it will be up to them to get up and try again.  They realize any help by any other party will be voluntarily and not something they are entitled to.

They will carry a burden that due to this they must also have a responsibility to help others in need, to do what is right for simply the sake of right.  They can’t rely on others to tell them when to give, what to give, how much to give or who deserves their help.

They must be responsible for themselves, their families, their communities and their nation as a whole.  The problem is today, most people even those who believe they are “free” are pawns on a giant chess board.  Just as the drug addict must first admit to being a drug addict before he can become free of drugs, so must we admit first that we are pawns if we wish to claim our birth rights of personal sovereignty.
