    Amanda Kraus speaks with USRowing Beach Sprint medallists Chris Bak and Morgan Hummel. Beach Sprints are an exciting and entirely new format likely to debut as an Olympic sport in LA 2028. It is the fast growing wild cousin of traditional, flatwater rowing. At Saundersfoot, Wales, last October, Chris won the USA’s first ever Beach Sprints gold medal, in the men’s solo. And together with Morgan won a bronze medal in the mixed coxed quad.

    Amanda Kraus discusses how best to support college rowers and their mental health. She speaks with Brenda Lilly and Meg Willette. Brenda Lilly, is the mother of Brian Lilly JR, the young UC San Diego rower who died by suicide at the age of 19 in January of 2021. Brenda shares Brian’s story in the hope of bringing guidance and resources to collegiate athletes and the parents, coaches, and teammates who surround them. Meg Willette is a licensed mental health counselor from Harvard University who works with student-athletes. Willette provides insight into her work and speaks about the issues surrounding the mental wellbeing of high achieving student-athletes. Please note this episode contains content relating to depression and suicide that some people may find disturbing.
