The Cross is perhaps the most prominent, well-known symbol of the Christian faith, yet so many of us fundamentally misunderstand what exactly happened there. Is the cross where a violent father made his innocent son his whipping boy to satisfy his bloodlust and thirst for justice? Or is the cross where a loving God stepped into human suffering in self-sacrifice and forgiveness? We see the cross is not a picture of payment, but a picture of forgiveness and love.
