From Ilan's first big break, on Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake, to the importance of having a great relationship with the Director and how Ilan starts the composing process we talk through Ilan’s journey in composing and his love for story-telling through music. Ilan has composed music for many award-winning films including Layer Cake, Still Alice, Stardust, The Young Victoria and Shaun The Sheep.  We find out why he loves working with Ralph Fiennes, with whom he has composed the scores to all three films that Ralph has directed.

Ilan also composed music for several video games including Sony PlayStation’s blockbuster video game Ghost of Tsushima and The Sims 4. He has worked on TV shows including David Attenborough's A Perfect Planet and the Netflix series Captains.

How was Ben Lee’s second gig as support for Sonic Youth?!

Ben Lee’s band Noise Addict were loved by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and the Beastie Boys Mike D and toured with Sebadoh when he was only 16 years old! How the heck did all that happen?

Why did he decide to go solo so soon after finding huge success with Noise Addict?  What do Mike D and Money Mark have to do with Ben working with T-Bone Burnett and how did that song end up on the end credits of the film Best Men?

He’s recorded with Evan Dando and Mandy Moore, teamed up with Ben Folds and Ben Kweller to form The Bens and won ARIA Single Of The Year for his song Catch My Disease, but how did the idea for that song start.

When you’re already part of one of the biggest bands in the UK, launching a successful solo career can be daunting, as Dave tells us, but listening to his first solo record he seems to have found his groove. Join us as we ask Dave what took him so long to record his first solo album, what inspired the songs and how he managed to record his album during the lockdowns of covid (remember them?). 

We find out how he moved into composing for film and TV, how much he loves collaborating with other musicians and where his ideas come from. Peter Noone's career started  as Stanley Fairclough in Britain’s biggest soap opera: Coronation Street. Peter was 15 when he became the lead singer of Herman’s Hermits and only 16 when “I’m Into Something Good” reached no.1 in the UK chart. Six months later, they reached the top of the US charts with "Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” but what was it like to grace the cover of every magazine and deal with huge fame in the 1960’s?

Hear how the perception of fans changed over time including the development of groupies! And what it was like to be the “clean cut” band versus the perception of the Rolling Stones.
