Virat Kohli called AB de Villiers ’Superman’ after the game as the South African smashed 73 off 33 balls to help the team post 194/2. 83 runs were made in the last 5 overs during which Virat and AB were batting for their 100-run partnership.

Kolkata’s chase never really took off with Sunil Narine’s replacement, Tom Banton opening with Shubman Gill. Banton made 8, Eoin Morgan made 8, Dinesh Karthik made 1 and Andre Russell, batting at 6, made 16. Gill top-scored with 34 as Kolkata only managed 112/9 in their 20 overs, losing by 82 runs.

Rahul Tewatia has once again got Rajasthan past the finish line, but this time he had 18-year-old Assamese cricketer Riyan Parag for help.

The target set by Hyderabad was 159 but with the top four, including Ben Stokes, falling cheaply, the team needed 65 runs off the last 5 overs.

Tewatia scored 45 off 28 and Parag made 42 off 26 as they pulled off a much needed 5-wicket win for Rajasthan, helping keep their campaign alive.

On episode 25 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and I discuss Bangalore’s big win over MS Dhoni’s Chennai on Saturday.

Captain Virat Kohli led from the front with a brilliant 52-ball 90* that helped Bangalore post 169/4 after choosing to bat first in Dubai.

Virat’s bowlers didn’t disappoint either. Ambati Rayudu was the highest scorer with 42 off 40 balls as Chennai was restricted to 132/8 in 20 overs.

Bangalore won by 37 runs, their biggest victory over Chennai so far.

On episode 24 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and I discuss Punjab’s fifth straight defeat of the season, to Kolkata on Saturday.

Defending a target of 165, Kolkata conceded just 13 runs and took three wickets in the last two overs to win the match by two runs.

However, KL Rahul’s side were cruising for much of the chase thanks to a 115-run opening stand between him and Mayank Agarwal and were 143/1 at the start of the 18th, needing just 22 to win off 18 balls.

Once Nicholas Pooran fell, Punjab eventually needed 14 off the last over but it proved too high a task for the team as they lost by 2 runs.

The stage was set. The venue was Sharjah and Rajasthan had restricted Delhi to the first under-200 total at the venue this season. But they somehow managed to once again bungle a chase and go from 56/1 in 6 overs to all out on 138.

On episode 23 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and I talk about Rajasthan 4th defeat of the season, making their qualification to the play-offs now a tough task for the season 1 champions.

Delhi were put into bat and Rajasthan’s bowlers got the best possible start - Dhawan, Iyer and Pant were out by the 6th over with the at 50/3. However, Stoinis’ 49 and Hetmyer’s 45 then helped them still get to 184/4 in their 20 overs.

Another capitulation of the top order saw Rajasthan’s Buttler out on 13, Smith on 24 and Sanju Samson on 5. Rahul Tewatia tried his best but with no help from the other end, he got out on 38 and Rajasthan folded on 138.

On episode 22 of The T20 Podcast, Ayaz Memon and I talk about the see-saw battle for victory between Punjab and Hyderabad on Thursday night in Dubai.

As has become the norm, David Warner stuck to his pattern of winning the toss and electing to bat first, against KL Rahul’s Punjab. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is out of the season but he missed the last game as well so not much changed in Warner’ playing XI with just Khaleel Ahmed coming in place of Sid Kaul. Punjab though, sitting at the bottom of the table, were forced to continue to change personnel, going with Prabsimran Singh, Arshdeep Singh, and Mujeeb ur Rahman and leaving out Harpreet Brar, Chris Jordan and Sarfraz Khan.

The first one hour of the match set the pattern of the game as Jonny Bairstow and Warner stitched together a 160-run stand. It was only in the 16th over that Punjab made a breakthrough with 20-year-old Ravi Bishnoi striking twice and packing off both the openers — Warner on 52 and Bairstow on 55-ball 97. Punjab’s bowlers held firm control of the rest of the innings as Hyderabad managed to only make 41 runs in the next 4 overs, losing 6 wickets and finishing on 201.

Was that enough though?

Well, by the 7th over, Mayank had been run out, Simran and KL Rahul too were gone and the Punjab’s score was 61/3. Nicolas Pooran smashed Abdul Samad for 28 runs in the 9th over and Punjab looked like they were back in the game but Glenn Maxwell once again fell cheaply – run out on 7 – and then Pooran followed, out on 77 in the 15th over.

Hyderabad won the game by 69 runs.

Chennai’s chase capitulated in the second half as the team slumped to a 10-run loss against Kolkata on Wednesday night in Abu Dhabi.

While Chennai did well in the death overs to bowl out Kolkata for 167, the latter responded with a death over masterclass of their own to restrict Dhoni’s team to 157/5.

Chasing a target of 168 for victory, Chennai had the upper hand until the start of the 17th over, when they had Sam Curran and skipper MS Dhoni in the middle and needed 44 to win off the last four overs. Dhoni fell to Varun Chakravarthy in that over for a 12-ball 11 after which Curran fell to Andre Russell off the first ball of the next over.

Kolkata conceded only 33 runs in the last four overs, of which 14 came from a six and two fours hit by Jadeja after it had become mathematically impossible for Chennai to chase down the total in the last over.
