  • Psalm 22 - 3/26/2023 Sunday PM Study

    Psalm 22 Worksheet

This is what we call a _____________________ Psalm, one of the psalms that includes prophecies and information about Christ.

Verses 1-21 constitute a prayer of the righteous

    C_____________________: 1-2, 6-8, 12-18

    T_____________________: 3-5, 9-11, 19-21

    Matthew 27:36

Verse two reminds us that the psalmists model for us taking our complaints ____________________ to God, no matter how critical. God can handle it!

Verse three-five reminds us that the psalmists also model reminding God and ourselves of His past _____________________ and promises.

Key here in verses 9-11 is that this is another passage that confirms that life begins __________________________ the day of birth!

Verses 12-18 provide many direct and indirect allusions to the ______________of Christ's Passion Week.

Verse 15 is a key verse theologically: God ______________ that Christ should die.

    Isaiah 53

Verses 22-25 are words of _____________________even amidst suffering

There are some wonderful "I wills" in the Bible.

    Henrietta Mears.

    Verse 26-31 are a _________________________

I love these verses, most of which are in the future tense!

What are some of the things David predicts here:

  • The Book of Remembrance - 3/26/2023 Sunday Sermon

    The Book of Remembrance

Teach Truth. Love Well. Dallas Seminary’s slogan

“We’ve heard our profs tell us the truth of the Bible. Now we see our profs living the truth of the Bible. DTS is not just “Teach Truth,” but it is also “Love Well.”

Read Col. 4:7-18 The Book of Remembrance Let’s Pray!

    12 people named, 12 eternal destinies V. 7-18

For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. -2 Timothy 4:10a

What would the Bible say about you if your earthly life ended today?

You make known to me the path of life; In Your presence there is fulness of joy; at your right hand are PLEASURES forevermore. -Psalm 16:11

God intends us to be part of interlinked Bible-based communities V. 15-16

As soon as Roman persecution eased they began building actual churches that met the needs of individual congregations with more people than could fit in a house.

As part of our own spiritual growth it is good to mutually share what we are learning with fellow Bible-based Christians in the community. But remember that Paul has already warned them to reject false teaching.

Scholars tell us that you can reproduce nearly the entire New Testament from the sermons of Second through 4th century church leaders. They would read from books like Colossians as Scripture and then preach from them.

The point is you were not meant to live your Christian life apart from gathering with other believers and together grow in Christ and impact your community and the entire world for Jesus!

The Appeal to Archippus, the appeal to all of us V. 17-18

    Look at verse 17

The word for ministry is the word diaconia (G1248), and it simply means serving. In the context it is obvious that the serving in mind is the serving of the Word to the church, as in Acts 6:4, where the apostles created deacons to minister to needs within the church, while they devoted themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word.

To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. -Ephesians 4:12

The next time you catch someone doing something right, for the Lord, say to them, “Thank you for fulfilling your ministry!”

  • Psalm 21 - 3/19/2023 Sunday PM Study

    Psalm 21 Worksheet

The Psalm divides simply into 2 halves. The first half expresses joyful gratitude for God’s blessings to the redeemed; the second half describes God’s _____________________ overthrow and judgment of the wicked who never repent.

Joy for those who delight in and ___________________ Yahweh V. 1-7

    Nehemiah 8:10

David had earthly honors and kingly majesty, but the thing he glorified most in was God’s _______________________.

    Luke 10:20

    What makes you exceedingly glad?

The word mercy in the NKJV is our famous word chesed, God’s never-failing ________________ love toward those who become His people by faith!

    Genesis 15:16

Judgment for those who rebel _______________________ Yahweh V. 8-13

    Hebrews 9:27

Not only will God find the wicked who try to hide from Him, He will _________________ them.

Deuteronomy 32:35 – “Their foot shall slip in due time.”

The words don’t mean that people within generations can’t repent and turn to God. But it does mean that the unrepentant that follow in the ways of the wicked will not be around on the new earth – or the __________________ systems that produced them.

    <><

The main theme of the Bible is well reflected in this Psalm – the _________________ of God. God is glorified through repentant sinners trusting in Him! But He will also be glorified in the judgment of unrepentant sinners!

Felix had left Festus a mess! The new high priest Ishmael had replaced Jonathan, who Felix had _______________. Ishmael and the religious leaders immediately try to get Festus to try Paul in Jerusalem.

Paul’s actions NOW _______________ the Rule of Law 25:2-12

Luke knew Roman Officials would read this book – and it shows Christians very ____________________ of the Rule of Law.

We can see in Acts and the Apostle’s letters that they envisioned not preferential treatment but a ________________ playing field to share the gospel of truth.

Paul meets the __________________ King of the Jews 25:13-27

  • Christians Interacting with Non-Christians - 3/12/2023 Sunday Sermon

    Christians Interacting with Non-Christians

In today’s passage, we see Paul go back to instructions for all Christians as he begins to finish up this great letter, and it should not surprise us that he goes back to the basic instruction to be people of prayer and gospel witness.

Read Col. 4:2-6 Christians interacting with non-Christians  Let’s Pray!

One of the main traits of Christian health is prayer V. 2-4

All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. -Acts 1:14

And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. -Acts 2:42

“You can do more than pray after you’ve prayed, but you can not do more than pray until you have prayed.” -John Bunyan

This seems to indicate that the people of God did not fight with the hand or weapons so much as with the voice and tongue, that is, they poured forth prayer to God, and thus overcame their adversaries. -Caesarius, Pastor in Arles, France (AD 470-542)

Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: “He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.” -1 Timothy 3:16

Now I promised you a fourth thing about prayer from this verse 2. Look again at the words, “Continue steadfastly.” You need to know that command is in the plural. The command there is to regularly pray out loud with other believers.

    Wise interactions with non-Christians V. 5-6

Are you finding ways to walk toward those who need Jesus?

Are you wasting any time in your life that you need to buy back to spend time advancing the gospel?

What does he have in mind by seasoning our speech with salt?

Salt does two things – it flavors but also is a preservative that prevents corruption.

There is a place for speaking words that are hard to hear – but it must come in the context of relationship where the other person knows how much you care about them.

  • Psalm 20 - 3/5/2023 Sunday PM Study

    Psalm 20 Worksheet

It appears that David is answering the question for his subjects, “How can I ________________ for the King?”

Numbers 6 is the great priestly blessing to the people of Israel; Psalm 20 takes on the feel of a great ________________ blessing for the people of Israel.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.  -Numbers 6:24-27

Prayer to __________________ the tough days   V. 1-3

Note the parallelism in the poetry – YAHWEH and then the name of the God of Jacob.

When we speak of being protected by the “name” of God we are thinking of His characteristics and traits, as well as His _______________ that we function under.

Now what past event does this verse make us think of in the life of Jacob?

What future event does this make us think of that will be hard for Israel?

    Jeremiah 30:7. Romans 10:13 John 14:13

“Jacob had his day of trouble, he wrestled, was heard, was defended, and in due time was set on high, and his God is our God still, THE SAME GOD TO ALL HIS WRESTLING JACOBS!”  -Charles Spurgeon

What did it mean in Leviticus that God was accepting your burnt offering?

That He accepted your confession of sin and agreed to ___________________ it to the atoning sacrifice and accept the death of the substitute rather than kill you for your sin.

Prayer to _________________ and fulfill your life’s purpose  V. 4-5

    Psalm 37:4  Matthew 6:33 John 10:10

“We may have our own will when our will is God’s will.”  -Charles Spurgeon

    Testimonies to the Lord’s ____________________  V. 6-8

    Some their warrior horses boast, Some their chariots marshaled host;

But our trust will we proclaim, In our God Jehovah’s name.

    -Richard Mant

Recognition of who Israel’s ultimate King is   V. 9

Can you see in your imagination the knowing exchange of looks between King David and his people as they get to this final line and together sing to the King of Kings?

  • Never Deterred, Never Alone, Never Forgotten - 3/1/2023 Wednesday Study

Never Deterred, Never Alone, Never Forgotten

    Acts 22:30 – 23:35

God often gives people more than they can handle – in their ___________ strength.

    Never _____________________ 23:30-23:10

_________________ was a big deal for Paul. he uses the word 21 times in his letters.

The word means “to know with, to know together.” Conscience is the inner “judge” or “witness” that approves when we do right and disapproves when we do wrong (Romans 2:15). Conscience does not set the standard; it only applies it. -Warren Wiersbe

    Romans 2:14-16 2 Corinthians 4:2

It is interesting that Paul said to Ananias, “God is going to strike you, you white-washed wall.” He was calling him a hypocrite, using the language of Ezekiel and Jesus. A truth-seeking High Priest would never dole out the punishment before a ________________ hearing.

    Never _____________________ 23:11

This is the greatest promise in the Bible – the ______________ of God in the life of a believer no matter what we are going through as we serve Him! We can never be deterred because we are never alone!

    Never _____________________ 23:12-15

But of course God had not forgotten him: God simply was shifting the way Paul would be used during the _______________ years of his life.

God reassured Paul that as he had testified in Jerusalem, he would now testify in Rome. God had used Paul as a church planter; He was going to use Paul as a political ________________!

It appears there will be __________________ of punishment in Hell based on what a person did with the revelation they received.
