Our preference for control may be why Christians frequently have a reputation for focusing on rules; rules clearly show who is doing well and who isn’t. Yet, God invites us into the unpredictability of true relationship with him and with others.

Hearing God isn’t as mysterious as it might sound because God is always at work in our lives, and He has always communicated with His people. God will use whatever mechanism He wants to speak to us, but Scripture is the primary way that the Holy Spirit opens us up to God.
