Rev. Kara Root’s “The Deepest Belonging: A Story about Discovering Where God Meets Us” tells the story of Kara’s journey as a pastor with a small Presbyterian church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kara’s writing has been a source of inspiration for this four-week worship series which invites our community of faith into the depths of what it means to belong to God and each other at The Table. Our worship series will culminate on October 27 with an opportunity to celebrate baptism, renew our baptismal covenants, and make Deep Commitments for 2025. We invite you to take time over the coming weeks to consider your relationship to God and our community of faith by sharing a Deep Commitment for 2025. The root of the word “human” is the same as the word “humility.” It all means literally “on the ground.” From dust we came, and to dust we shall return. When we hear each other’s fears, anxieties, and pain, we can return to the ground of hope… that we are all experiencing the pains of being human. This week, we remember to look first at our neighbor as a person, not a position. Beginning conversations this way may help us to stay human and “on the ground” with one another rather than needing to come out “on top.” Worship online with thetable.live. In this worship series we are examining the news we take in and share. We are looking for the “really good news” that can sustain us in the long haul. Together, we find ways to tell deeply good news for all people by filtering our interactions through the lens of compassion. Today’s scripture gives us what feels like an impossible vision: those who are enemies existing peacefully together. It is said that if we can envision something, we can work towards it.
