#TheTakeOffInterview| This year marks 28 years of democracy in South Africa. On 27 April 1994 the country held its first ever democratic elections, marking the formal end of apartheid -one of the 20th century’s greatest victories for human rights. This victory is celebrated each year on 27 April as ‘Freedom Day’.

With 28 years of hindsight, what was the significance of that day? Do We Still Have Cause to Celebrate?

#TheTakeOffInterview| On 27 April 1994, South Africans from all walks of life voted in the first democratic elections. This was after many years of disenfranchisement of black people in South Africa. This day therefore marked an important democratic breakthrough in the history of the country. We reflect on 27 April 1994

    • Millions queued in lines over a four-day voting period. Altogether, 19,726,579 votes were counted, and 193,081 were rejected as spoilt.
    • As widely expected, the African National Congress (ANC)took a sweeping victory, taking 62% of the vote.
    • The ANC formed a Government of National Unity with the National Party (NP) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the two other parties that won more than 20 seats in the National Assembly.

#MoneyMonday| Financial freedom is a myth. However, financial confidence is REAL.

What is “financial confidence”? It is the ability to generate income on demand regardless of the economy and regardless of the industry. Money doesn’t make you rich. Skills make you rich.

    • The reason is because financial freedom is a myth. Money alone does not guarantee financial security. It’ does not protect you against a bad economy. It does not protect you against bad investments. It does not protect you against ignorance or divorce.
    • This is why you must develop financial confidence- it is the only protection against the uncertainties of life.
