The Talent Code: Chapter Three

Listen Later

Hey Shoremates,

Welcome back to Mind Your Helm.  The podcast designed for those who who want the best books broken down into small, bite sized pieces. My name is JD Elliott, and today we are continuing The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle.  I understand that sometimes these books can cause more questions to come up, so if there’s ever anything you want to talk about more in depth, you can find me streaming on Twitch.  Just search for The Life Navigator, follow me, and you’ll get notifications whenever I go live.

Action Items: For ease of reference, these are listed in the show notes.  Today’s action items build on yesterday’s questions.

  1. Yesterday we talked about how Myelin is the secret ingredient, and today we went through some stories involving people who were commonly thought of as geniuses such as Beethoven, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and the Bronte Sisters. Now knowing they all spent thousands of hours practicing from a young age, what are your thoughts on this chapter?
  2. If you’re struggling with the idea that skillsets are really grown through deep practice, ask yourself why it’s hard for you to accept.  Now, knowing that your brain will work to get better at whatever you have it do,  what would you like to get better at?  What do you need to do today in order to do that?
  3. Have fun.  This is a long process, and it’s good to enjoy the journey versus only looking forward to the destination.

Shoremates, I hope that this episode was valuable to you. The talent code is a life changing book, and I highly recommend adding it to your bookshelf for greater detail on each chapter.

Always, always remember.  You’ve got this.
