The Taoist sexual practices which we teach in the Tao of Deep Intimacy date back to the time of the Yellow Emperor, primarily taught by three women adepts.
Taoist practice has been through many changes and modifications in the intervening 5,000 years. In the last decades, we have developed a much richer and more nuanced understanding of the nature of trauma, particularly around sexuality, and how it can shut down the nervous system and blood flow, as well as inhibiting arousal.
Pioneers like Bessel van der Koop, Peter Levine, as well as Stephen Porkus understanding of Polyvagal Theory help us understand how to recognize sexual trauma as well as how to heal it.
Máire Ní G is a Taoist teacher from Ireland, trained by Master Mantak Chia, as well as an occupational therapist with extensive training and experience in working with trauma, particularly for women. She’s one of a small group of women who understand the interface between Taoist practice and working with sexual trauma for women, particularly in how Taoist practices can play a powerful role in healing.
