I was delighted to sit down and talk with Tracey V. Wilson and Holly Frey, the ladies behind the "Stuff you Missed in History Class" podcast. This hit show has millions of downloads per month and I was so happy to talk with them at the "Great Conversations" event in Gettysburg, PA, hosted by the Gettysburg Foundation. My good friend, Dr. Keith Harris (aka The Rogue Historian) is my guest this week on the podcast. Keith is heavily involved with history on Twitter and his fantastic podcasts and blog posts. Historian, author, a man of fashion, Keith is a great representative for the future of the history field and shows us how we can bring history to the masses.

How does digital history influence you? Are you learning history differently now as compared to 20 years ago? I visited George Mason University last week at the invitation of my friend, Stephanie Seal Walters. She taught a digital humanities class there and asked me to come to speak with the students about my experience as an independent historian focusing on digital content. It was a great experience and in this podcast, I cover some of the things we spoke about.

Here are some of my thoughts on my experience covering the Civil War Institute's Summer Conference at Gettysburg College. The CWI has been a great supporter of my efforts to get more history out to the masses and I was honored to cover their conference on social media!

I was so happy to have Tim Lambert from WITF on the podcast to talk about his fantastic article for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. His piece entitled, "How a Pennsylvania Man Ended up in an Iconic D-Day Invasion Photo," is a fine article about one man's journey to the shores of Omaha Beach. The photograph we speak about is definitely a well-known one, and I have posted it on my Facebook page so you can understand the scene we are describing.

Education, Preservation, Dedication. These three words mean so much to me and I outlined these in a speech I delivered for the Descendants and Friends of the 314th Infantry A.E.F. on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The speech took place at the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge, PA and I wanted to go over the speech with you and the meaning of the words spoken.

Scott Douglas joins me and talks about the Fort Dobbs site in western North Carolina. This 18th century fort has become a fixture of the local area for generations and is now nearly reconstructed! Scott tells us about the history of the fort, the archaeology on site, and the reconstruction efforts to bring this history back to life!

For all of you who are into Civil War history, this episode is for you. I talk about the Emerging Civil War Series of books and how they are great references for historians of all walks of life. I am really excited to see an entity such as the Emerging Civil War create books which are appealing to a broad audience.

My friend, Avery Lentz, joins me on this episode to talk about a podcast he just started with his friends where they discuss battles throughout history. I enjoy introducing my friends' works to all of you, and this is one instance of that.
