Tips include bringing backpack to store water, snacks such as nuts, fruits, dried fruits, granola bars, clif bars etc, trash bag to take trash out(no trace left behind), lunch like sandwiches, organic chips, etc.
Recommended: bug spray, sunscreen, lotion, chapstick, hat, pants, hiking shoes or athletic shoes. Comfortable clothing.
Bring extra pair in car you will be hot sweaty and dirty after. I like to change after.
Warning** Children feel hotter than adults while hiking, they release more heat therefore be mindful of water breaks and resting breaks for children.
