The Techno Series ep7 - NPM

Listen Later

Generally, techno is defined as a form of electronic dance music that is said to have emerged in Detroit, Michigan during the mid-to-late 1980s,
"Stylistically, techno is generally repetitive instrumental music, often at times produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythmic component is most often in common time (4/4), where time is marked with a bass drum on each quarter note pulse, a backbeat played by snare or clap on the second and fourth pulses of the bar, and an open hi-hat sounding every second eighth note. The tempo tends to vary between approximately 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm), depending on the style of techno. " (Wikipedia)
I will be honest my passion for techno is somewhat recent, being over the last two years but again what I have learnt that no matter what general definition is given to techno it is interesting to see how other genres such as house when mixed give different interpretations and explains to a degree why people tend to put techno into one bag and refer to it just as electronic dance music.
After the success of the Deep House Series I thought it was time to look at techno and get an interpretation of this through the Dj. I have been following NPM (Nick Martin him for quite some time now. A resident dj at WRONG, his sound can be said to of dark, industrial raw sound of the genre. It is sad that he is leaving London, but I am glad that I was able to get him to do a podcast for the series before he left.
"Techno is energetic and driving. It is the rhythm of your heart, body and soul. I never really thought about what techno is to me before but I think that's the closest"
