Welcome to ep4 of the Tech House Series.

Tech house is a subgenre of house music that mixes elements of techno with house. The term tech house developed as a shorthand record store name for a category of electronic dance music that combined musical aspects of techno, such as "rugged basslines" and "steely beats," with the harmonies and grooves of progressive house...As a mixing style, tech-house often brings together deep or minimal techno music, the soulful and jazzy end of house, some minimal techno....There is some overlap with progressive house, which too can contain deep, soulful, dub, and techno elements (Wikipedia) It is said to have origins in the UK from around the 1990's.

It is interesting when trying to define tech house that there is a tendency to see an overlap and sometimes even a fusion of sub genres of house music from techno to progressive. With the Deep House Series well established, the Techno Series going from strength to strength it was only natural to progress with to be honest my favourite, tech house. Again, with these mixes, I look to the dj to give their own personal interpretation of what is tech house.

So over to Ed Martinez. A spanish dj, now residing in London, I first heard him playing live at La Divina earlier this year with his partner in crime, Carlos Martinez, who together aka Groove Agents. He is a musician, dj, and producer so I thought it would really be interesting to get his take on what is tech house although when you listen to his podcasts, his sound is not only limited to tech house but ranges from almost every genre, sub genre to include house music, techno, deep house to name a few.

Here's how he summed up tech house:

"Tech House is the sound of the future because marries Detroit with Chicago in a way that everyone can understand.Can be played anywhere at any time and goes for a lot of different flavours.More energetic than house, more musical than techno"

Welcome to ep23 of the Deep House Series.

Deep house as a subgenre of house music is pretty massive. It is said to originate in the 1980's from Chicago. Generally when we talk of deep house, you would expect the bpm to be between 120 & 130 although the more and more I talk to producers and djs am feeling this tends to be between 116 to 126 bpm tops. With the Deephouse series, I am hoping to show what I find to be the different takes on this with the different mixtapes from the select guests in the UK & across the globe.

Well it has been a while since the last podcast so thought it was about time. Sometimes with music and friends you come across people who you see have a passion about the music even from an early age, which brings me to Sean Mclean. We met through a good friend when I was in Turin earlier this year and I was pretty impressed with someone young in his style which took me back abit to ol' skool house, with a sweet emphasis on the vocal side of deep and future house. Speaking more with Sean, I learnt that he is part of the UNUM organisation that hold house music events in Turin. Hope you enjoy this as mix as much as I do.
