I will be honest my passion for techno is somewhat recent, being over the last two years but again what I have learnt that no matter what general definition is given to techno it is interesting to see how other genres such as house when mixed give different interpretations and explains to a degree why people tend to put techno into one bag and refer to it just as electronic dance music.

After the success of the Deep House Series I thought it was time to look at techno and get an interpretation of this through the Dj.

What better way than to start the new year with my partner in crime and bestie, Thomas Wonderland. Now I have to admit when it comes to techno we don't always see eye to eye but when we do it's boom. Thomas Wonderland takes it on to another level. As the Techno Series is all about the dj's interpretation I took a step back and left him to his own and I am sure you will be pretty impressed. Tech techno backbeats with dark overtones which is kinda his signature sound is how I would describe this podcast.

"Techno is dark, deep, melodic but especially raw. It has to be rolling, it has to come from the ground and goes to your ears, straight into your heart, then spread everywhere into your body.

Welcome to ep20 of the Deep House Series.

Deep house as a subgenre of house music is pretty massive. It is said to originate in the 1980's from Chicago. Generally when we talk of deep house, you would expect the bpm to be between 120 & 130 although the more and more I talk to producers and djs am feeling this tends to be between 116 to 126 bpm tops. With the Deep House series, I am hoping to show what I find to be the different takes on this with the different mixtapes from the select guests in the UK & across the globe.

To start 2016 off is Luke Donington aka Cool Hand Luke, Santiago Blue, Bang Bang Club. A well established dj, producer and remixer who has been in the music industry for over 20 years.

He has produced under Santiago Blue and Bang Bang Club and most recently in partnership with Zach Burns under the alias, Donington & Burns. He has remixed for Twisted Records, FFRR, XL, ZTT Records, doing mixes on classic tracks such as Danny J Lewis - Spend The Night and Johnny Dangerous - Beat That Bitch.

I really like the mixed bag of sounds you get from Luke, a fusion of house with tech, techno and minimal which can be heard when listening to this podcast.

Watch out for Luke in 2016 with his first EP coming out in February under Donington under the US record label, Blockhead Recordings.

Heralding from Valencia, but now residing in London is my good friend Carlos aka Koseki. I first came across him thru him playing at La Divina Afterhours. The interesting interpretation I initially got from his sound was about it being minimal but actually after listening to the podcast you will find how diverse he can be when he plays. When I asked him to define techno,

"When I play I have a preference for techno and techno house. Usually the sound is dark and powerful with a twist of grooves added"

"Techno is something i slowly fell into as i expanded my interests away from Circuit/ Funky House and more into the Deep/ Tech genres. For myself, I love it's raw energy and tough industrial sounds that really hit you, As I have got more into it though I have tended to centre closer to the tribal influences which always bring back memories of club nights and sets where such sounds have stood out & inspired me. This mix features a range of tracks that bring to you my interpretation of Techno, many of which you' will hear in my Tech/ Techno sets at events such as Popcorn & A:M Afterhours. Enjoy this mix and the series to come."

On to ep19 of the series which is closely tied in with ep18. I came across Ross Peckham thru Donny Christian and have been following his sound for over a year now. It is interesting to learn that Ross has been on the same path as Donny Christian,first starting out in drum and bass, playing vinyl and his passion for house music soon took place and is clearly reflected in his sound, that of the london house, ol' skool and Ibiza house flava.

"I took the plunge in about 2005 to really get into house music and this was mainly down to Donny with his impressive collection of Hed kandi and defected albums & vinyl. I haven't looked back since and now house music is part of my day to day life. I wake up to listen to house and go to sleep listening to house. It's the past and it's the future!

Dj Tony Navas originates from Spain but now resides in Brighton, UK. I first came across Tony Navas through my good friend, Xavi Lopez from the Box Collective, Spain and was fortunate to hear him play live at the La Divina Showcase party with Capo & Comes. I have known him for his tech house style so it's refreshing to hear his take on the deep house sound, mixing it up deep techno style. Been a while since the last episode of the Series but a massive thanks for all the good feedback with ep13 with Aldana. Now to continue we have Dj Arijit Sen in the deep house corner. Arijit is renowned for playing his underground, tech house, techno sound at club night, Nocturned at the Ministry of Sound London and so for me it's wicked to see his take on deep house here.
