Deep house as a subgenre of house music is pretty massive. It is said to originate in the 1980's from Chicago. Generally when we talk of deep house, you would expect the bpm to be between 120 & 130 although the more and more I talk to producers and djs am feeling this tends to be between 116 to 126 bpm tops. With the Deephouse series, I am hoping to show what I find to be the different takes on this with the different mixtapes from the select guests in the UK & across the globe.

And now for something more closer to home. We are off to the south coast. David Ethics has been a Dj/Promoter/Producer since the mid 90’s. He is renown for his residencies at Dirty Sunset Disco and his own club night Rebel Rabble in Brighton.

Really nice to hear how he links deep house with deep tech, tech house, techno and wait for it nu disco & this is reflected in the journey he takes with this mixtape.

2015 looks set to be a busy year what with his coming summer season residencies, a record label launch and production projects. His track ‘Human Behaviour’ is due for release on EB Records in February 2015 and will be available on Beatport.

From the end of January he will be hosting his weekly ‘Rebel Rabble Radio’ show on Brighton’s brand new online and FM station Trickstar. The show is scheduled for every Wednesday from 6 to 8pm. News, updates and details will be posted via Facebook and Twitter, so stay tuned.

Rio Dela Duna is an established dj, producer and label owner from Montpelier, France. His roots first started out in Housesession Records then he went onto set up Vamos Music and Check In Recordings. I first got to know of Rio through the La Divina presents Vamos Music parties some two years back I recall interviewing and as I remember him, always either releasing a track or collaboration. This is illustrated even with track 14 on this mixtape, Africanism

Expect a bpm of 126 with the emphasis on deep,soulful, vocal vibes.

Now over to Igualada, Spain with Angel Cocodil. He is an established dj, producer and also label owner of Sandy Records. His sound is house music and in the main from deep house to tech house. He is known for playing at the infamous Club Row, L'Atlantida Sitges, Club Rain Amsterdam, Pacha Sitges Bali ar, Buddha Amsterdam club to name a few.

What I love about this mixtape on the Deep House Series is his personal touch on the ol' skool sound.

Gerald Henderson is an established dj. producer and label owner of Bongo Tones. When you talk of his sound to me it is all about the groove with his fusion flava of percussion, tribal, afro, tech,latin beats. This is reflected on his take with the deep house sound. And now as promised, the 2nd instalment from Zach Burns. Last month I mentioned this would be a liittle personal to me. It has been amazing to see him go from strength to strength but the one thing that has stayed is his passion and love for the house. Now as I did say the Deephouse series is all about showing the different sounds of deep house as we know it and Zach Burns does just that with his infusion of the deeper rather than just deep with tech and tribal house influences, almost verging near the end to deep techno and yet when you are listening the bpm stays around the 124 mark. Love it, enjoy it!

So the 1st instalment is from dj/producer, Tom Nikso, who is a resident Dj at Scream Paris. We met thru a mutual friend, Bertrand. This time round we have Salome Calvino. Originally from France, now residing in London. I first came across Salome at the Groovebox party for La Divina & loved the fresh sound coming from her. Immediately, I thought why not transfer this onto a deephouse tip! !What I like about this sound is how she fuses the deep house ol' skool house with fresh new beats, keeping it distinct.
