ON THE DECKS WITH JAMES ZAMAN
1 . When and how did you start djiing
My first podcast was done after Barcelona circuit in 2010. There was so much amazing music that year that I came back to london with a whole bunch and thought it would be amazing to have it all there as a complilation and a reminder of the amazing week that I had. The mixes were originally meant for myself and my friends and geared towards having some good music to work out to! Thus began my first dance podcast back in August 2010 and I haven't looked back! I have also always loved new age/etehrial and world music which soon became well knowncommercially by the likes of Café del Mar, Buddha Bar and Hotel Costes. Allot of beautiful music was being made that people didn’t really know about. So I decided to put together chill out compilations which were themed by seasons and thus began the chill out podcasts!
2. What style of house music do you play?
I would say I lean more towards progressive house but also like to combine vocal house with a bit of funky house. I like big songs, big sounds, songs you can imagine going crazy to outside at the terrace in Space!
3..So who were your influences when you started djiing?
Steve Pitron, Max Sanna, Ben Manson, Phil Hewson, Raf Fender, Ted Eiel - these guys were and are amazing and influenced me a huge deal.
4. Where have you played?
I have played in a number of private parties and have been asked to Dj in quite a few well known venues in London but I havent yet decided to make my DJ'ing a professional thing. I make my music mainly to share to those who like my music style and for now I feel content making dance and chill out podcasts and sharing them via social media and word of mouth.
5. Ok so who is 'Cynthia'
HMMMM! Well if I told you I would have to kill you!
6. Do you produce tracks?
Not at the moment but anything is possible in the future!
7. Your ultimate 3 venues to play at?
Space terrace, Ibiza
Fabric, London
Cafe Del Mar, Ibiza
8. Define london house music?
That's a tough one as house music is constantly changing but I would say the London sound is quite vocal, funky and uplifting.
9. We always seem to talk of spanish house but the london
house music sound is pretty unique, which direction do you
think it is going? London is a transient and cosmopolitan city so I feel that we always have certain influences which comprise the entire London Sound. The house music scene will always have a little bit of Ibiza, a bit of Miami and allot of London. I feel it will continue to be influenced but amalgamated as a best of whatever is out there I would hope so in any case!
10. More to come from you in 2012?
So much more! The possibilities are really endless! I will continue to do my best to make some amazing chill out podcasts which touch peoples minds and hearts along with getting the best of what's out there in the dance world. And who knows, I might decide to take my DJ'ing one step further and do one night a month on the Vauxhall scene. Watch this Cynthia space!
