Ever since I was young, I always had trouble focusing on one thing for an extended period of time. And for the longest time I assumed that it was due to some kind of learning disability. I would find something I was interested in, commit to it fully, but I could never execute on the level that I hoped to, and simultaneously some new thing would catch my interest. For so much of my youth and into young adulthood, I struggled to pinpoint where I fit in.
Finally, once I reached my late twenties, I discovered that I didn’t have to focus on just one thing. That fact was a complete game-changer. Rather than trying to fit myself into a mold that others created, I was dropped into this new world which now seems endless to me.
I don’t think the entrepreneur lifestyle is for everyone. And I think we are going to see many who claim to be entrepreneurs now will eventually fade away because it won’t always be the hip new cool thing to do.
For me, however, I love to start things. I love to begin with nothing and build something. And the fact that I can dedicate myself to that process over the next 10, 20, 30, 40 years has created massive amounts of freedom.
