The first in at least a two-part series on the First Texans and the Native American tribes that inhabited the state. In this episode, I talk about how early man crossed the land bridge that connected Asia and North America and slowly made their way to Texas nearly 12,000 years ago. I also, begin talking about the tribes of Texas by examining the Southeastern peoples.
This is the first of my mini-episodes that will appear between regular, longer episodes. This episode is a short history of Cedar Hill. A small rural community that over time was consumed by the sprawling suburbia of Dallas, Texas. From killer tornados to nudists and devil worshipers - Cedar Hill has ... okay, maybe that's a bit sensationalistic, but it's all there in the history of this little farming community turned bedroom community.
A brief history of the town of Marfa, Texas. From its early days as a frontier town to its current status as a destination for art lovers. We even talk a bit about the Marfa Lights. The second part of our episode is a review of the 1985 road movie - Fandango and how I feel it's the quintessential Texas college movie.
In this episode, we examine the use of Colt Paterson revolver by Texas Rangers in their war against the Comanche and the subsequent design and use of the 1847 Colt Walker revolver during the Mexican War. We also, switch gears a little and look into paranormal Texas history with the story of the Wild Woman of the Navidad - considered by many to be the first interaction with a Texas Bigfoot by Anglo settlers.
