In 2019, folks who speak openly about "understanding scripture" being "the most important thing" are still using the bible to oppress groups of people. Today, the group being discussed is women. The church has spent decades defending and upholding that which they have deemed as "sacred," no matter how outdated or dead the practice(s) may be.
