The Training 4 Influence methodology serves as a creative solution to the problems this sector faces. And while we have first-hand experience of how this methodology works within our own training company, we wanted to ensure that it had the academic theory to back it up. That is why I asked Dr Sarah Lewis to write an academic paper critically examining the Training 4 Influence methodology to ensure that everything we teach is evidence-informed.
Dr Sarah Lewis is not only the Director of Penal Reform Solutions but the Founder of the Growth Alliance, a movement that promotes personal growth as a way of collectively reducing social harm. She carried out her doctoral studies on therapeutic correctional relationships and since then has focused her efforts on quality practice within correctional contexts.
When I first met Sarah last year, we instantly connected because of a shared vision to create long term, sustainable and transformative change to the lives of people often dismissed by society. That is why, while nervous at first, I knew she was best placed to vigorously assess our methodology from a theoretical perspective.
In this episode I speak to Sarah about the process of assessing the Training 4 Influence methodology and why she not only stands by it, but uses it in her own practice within Penal Reforms Solutions. We talk about the four steps within the methodology: expert, tailored, engaging and values-led, why they are so important, and what ultimately led her to claim that:
“By adopting the methodology of Training 4 Influence, exciting and meaningful training can be adopted, which ultimately empowers practitioners to use their knowledge to transform prison culture.”
I hope you enjoy!
