In this episode of the Therapist Experience, we chat with the co-founder and owner of SureHope Counseling, Mike Vaughn, to hear more about his experience owning and operating a private practice.
Mike Vaughn is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LPCS) and co-founder/owner of SureHope Counseling and Training Center; a group private practice with multiple locations in Charlotte, NC. Mike has been in private practice since 2003, where he specializes in intensive therapy with his clients. He is also the owner of The Counseling Practice Coach, where he coaches other therapists, especially on how to do intensive work in private practice and experiential therapy.
Mike has done extensive training in sex addiction, trauma, marital therapy, and experiential therapy fields. In addition to the Gottman Method, EMDR, and Brainspotting, Mike is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He is also a monthly contributor on Charlotte Today (NBC, WCNC) with over 100 television segments aired as well as radio, magazine and podcast contributions.
One thing that is often missed while looking at different marketing strategies is talking and meeting with other local therapists. Therapists who have a mature practice often receive many clients that they cannot or choose not to take on, which they will want to pass along to other therapists. Meeting with other therapists is a great way to unlock a new potential referral source.
Thanks to Mike for joining us this week. Until next time!

Never miss another jam-packed episode of The Therapist Experience!
In this episode of the Therapist Experience, we chat with the host of On The Couch Podcast, and Co-owner and Chief Clinical Officer of Parenting & Family Solutions, John Dennis.
John has over 15 years of experience working as a counselor. He specializes in both marriage and family counseling for individuals, couples, children, and adolescents, and in his work with couples, he is Level-2 trained in Gottman Counseling.
Through his up-and-coming podcast, he has had numerous distinguished guests, including Dr. Christine Moutier (Psychiatrist and Chief Medical Officer of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention), Lori Gottlieb (NYT Best-Selling Author of Maybe You Should Talk To Someone), Joe Sanok (Host of the Practice of the Practice Podcast), and Mike Michalowicz (Best-Selling Author, former SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year and former Small Business columnist for the Wall Street Journal). His goal in life is to continue growing as a husband, father, and mental health warrior.
It’s important to find the delicate balance point between counseling and marketing. Often it can feel as if marketing in this field is unethical, but it’s crucial to remember that it is a necessity, and finding the right balance between counseling and marketing should be a priority when running a private practice.
Thanks to John for joining us this week. Until next time!
