  • Cash & Skye: Extended Interview
The Third Men Podcast is excited to welcome onto the show this week TMR recording artists Sophia Skye and Henri Cash -- also known as the amazing duo CASH & SKYE! Last year the pair released their very first single on Third Man Records - No Candy b/w Sweeping Wet Floors - and these cuts quickly made their way to the top of our "best of" list for 2021. Eagle-eared (is that a thing?) listeners will remember our discussion about this record with Ben Blackwell back in episode 158, and we were so happy and excited to have the privilege of talking to Sophia and Henri last month about their new musical venture. TMR fans have already been introduced to guitarist Henri Cash through his work as lead-shredder of the amazing band STARCRAWLER (which have crossed paths with Third Man in the past) and lead vocalist Sophia Skye just so happens to be the daughter of rock'n'roll pioneer and Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder - making this power-combo a match made in rock royalty! We'd like to thank Sophia and Henri for joining us on the show today and hope you all enjoy this interview as much as we enjoyed conducting it!

  • ROME: Album Analysis & Review
Our show is an open book, take a look! And if you do... you might just find our latest album analysis & review episode waiting for you -- highlighting 2011's epic ROME project, originated by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi and contributed to by the likes of Jack White, Nora Jones and more! Sometimes referred to as one of the "lost" Jack White solo projects, this album of gorgeous material intended to evoke the feeling of classic "spaghetti westerns" like The Good the Bad and the Ugly was a playground for soundtrack enthusiast Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse), who made a name for himself as DJ and producer on such projects as The Grey Album and both hit records by Gnarles Barkley. Of course, when Jack White was approached to contribute both lyrics and vocals to several tracks on the record, Jack jumped at the chance to participate in one of the grandest musical experiments of the decade, and explore time as a solo artist in the era prior to Blunderbuss, Lazaretto and the other personal projects that would see the light of day over the course of the next decade on TMR. Joining us for this discussion today is Coppersound Pedals brainchild Alex Guaraldi, whose triplegraph pedal has graced many a Third Man release for years now. We'd like to thank Alex for joining us on this journey and hope you all enjoy listening to this discussion as much as we enjoyed having it!

  • WARSTIC HQ feat. Ben Jenkins & Christine Edgington
Welcome to Deep Ellum -- the Dallas neighborhood famous for music, nightlife and now... Baseball. In November of 2021 WARSTIC HEADQUARTERS opened its doors to fans, players and enthusiasts alike, and this week on the Third Men Podcast we're sitting down with co-founder and co-owner Ben Jenkins, who's joined by Warstic President Christine Edgington, to detail this momentous occasion! It was way back in 2017 when we first sat down with Ben to chat about the then-new baseball gear business he had started with Jack White and pro ball-player Ian Kinsler - and since then we've seen this start-up reach staggering heights! From GQ magazine to the World Series and beyond, Warstic has brought beauty and attitude to America's pastime -- and Ben has been kind to keep in touch with us over the years through it all. Of course, as James says in the episode, "every beautiful ship needs a captain" -- and Christine Edginton is here to talk shop about the nuts and bolts that went into bringing this HQ to life...a storefront, coffee shop, speakeasy, music venue and all-around baseball experience in Dallas, Texas. We'd like to thank Ben and Christine for joining us, and we hope you all enjoy this exciting retelling of the epic opening to a new era! Welcome to the WARSTIC REVOLUTION.

  • TMR 2021 feat. Ben Blackwell
Ben Blackwell is back! As the calendar year 2021 draws to a close, we here at the Third Men Podcast are once again on a mission to look back at the music, art and output from Third Man Records over what turned out to be a hopeful but complicated 12 months. As the announcement of a new Jack White (series of) album(s) alongside dates for a new tour filled our hearts with JWIII excitement, a slew of releases from both new and legacy artists alike within the TMR stable maintained our collective spirits during a tumultuous year packed with hope, despair, joy and music. In this special retrospective, 5-time-returning guest Ben Blackwell (co-founder and co-owner of Third Man Records) joins us to detail the highs, sighs and really-tries of the year of our lord two thousand and twenty one...and teases a glimpse of what's in story for 2022. Does Jack White have a future in the NFT business? Who assembled the TMR London releases? What restaurant did Blackwell buy Jenny Lewis dinner in during this past year? The answers to those questions and much more await you in this special 2021 retrospective, and we’d like to extend a huge thanks to Mr. Blackwell for not only appearing once more on the show but for all the wonderful art he helped bring into the world this year. Cheers to Third Man, and cheers to 2022 — Happy New Year, everybody!

  • Third Man London feat. Jamie S. Rich
Get ready to pack your bags and trip out to jolly ol' Great Britain with the Third Men Podcast! This past fall, Third Man Records opened a landmark 3rd storefront and base of operations in London, England -- and this week we're diving deep into the store's opening, its exclusive TMRL releases and of course the accompanying concert performance by Jack White himself! When mysterious storefronts sporting odd names began popping up in the city's historic Soho, Londonites were left scratching their heads at such an absurd scam. But before long, these mock businesses revealed themselves to be none other than Jack White and co, and on Saturday September 25th, 2021 fans and spectators alike were greeted to the grand opening of this new TMR venture! Along with the new shop, Third Man featured several stunning new releases by artists such as David Ruffin, Paul Weller, The Jesus and Mary Chain and more -- and friend of the show Jamie S. Rich has joined us this week to run down all the details on this collection of bangers! From our side of the pond to yours, we hope you enjoy this new episode - cheers!

  • Jack White and the Vinyl Revolution
Your turntable's not dead! In fact, for the last 18 years the wax spinning on those turntables have found brand new life in the form of an astonishing vinyl resurgence. This unlikely resuscitation of one of the world's most innovative and beautiful music delivery mechanisms was spearheaded by many key tastemakers for the past several decades, but chief among those tastemakers is without a doubt Mr. Jack White. In this week's episode we're sitting down with record store owner and podcaster Jessi Zilka (Jesse Carl Vinyl and The Porch Podcast, respectively) to walk through the history of the vinyl revolution and its connections to Jack White over the years -- starting with Jack's very first exposure to black wax and continuing on to this very day. While still a small slice of the multi-billion dollar global music industry, the vinyl record's comeback is proof positive that there's hope for truth and beauty in the world for those that appreciate it - and we thank Jack White and Third Man Records for helping bring that truth and beauty back to life!

  • White Blood Cells XX feat. Stuart Sikes
It's been twenty years since the iconic White Stripes album White Blood Cells ripped through the stereos and eardrums of a new generation of rock and roll fans -- propelling Jack and Meg White to stardom and cementing the pulse-pounding duo as a staple of listeners the world over. To celebrate, The Third Men Podcast is diving deep into TMR Vault #48: White Blood Cells XX to take a look at not only the iconic White Blood Cells album, but the amazing bonus features compiled by Third Man in honor of the anniversary. And what LP anniversary celebration would be complete without the participation of someone who was actually THERE for the recording of the album? Enter engineer Stuart Sikes, who (along with Jack, Meg and David Swanson) was on hand for the recording of these songs -- and who is featured in the DVD footage included in Vault 48 chronicling the recording process at Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennessee in those early weeks of 2001. Stuart's perspective on this iconic piece of rock history is unique, and his grammy-winning career has included other work alongside such acts as Modest Mouse, Polyphonic Spree, Cat Power, and the project that helped spawn The Raconteurs: Loretta Lynn's Jack White-produced modern-masterpiece Van Lear Rose. We'd like to thank Stuart for joining us on the program, and hope you all enjoy listening to this interview and much as we enjoyed conducting it! And happy birthday to White Blood Cells!

  • Taking Me Back...To Rock’n’Roll High School

We're TAKING YOU BACK to the Third Men Podcast! Jack White's first new solo music in over 3 years is finally here, and we're excited to deep dive into the new single, its gentle B-side, and speculate on what's yet to come! In the reflective spirit of Taking Me Back, we're also celebrating the new by delving into what came before... as we take you back to a little place we call Rock'n'Roll High School. Across geography and generations, the high school experience is rich with the musical discovery and experimentation that help forge lifelong tastes. Jack's time at Cass Tech is a prime example of just how important those late teen years can be, and this week we're enlisting the help of some very special guests to walk us through their own respective high school eras. First up is listener Nick Langford, whose furious shredding helped inspire recent episodes such as Anatomy of a Fandom and Open Show 2021. Next -- fresh off of the release of his band The Bootheels new collection 1988: The Original Demos (featuring bandmates Jakob Dylan, Tobi Miller and Aaron A. Brooks) singer/songwriter/musician Luther Russell is on hand to reflect on his own teen music experience. When he's not releasing solo music, playing with groups such asThose Pretty Wrongs and The Freewheelers, or writing songs for bands such as Weezer, Luther lays down some serious rock'n'roll knowledge on music podcasts far and wide - and he's here to illuminate our discussion here today. We're so thrilled to be joined by Luther and Nick on this special episode, and hope you all dig our venture back into Rock'n'Roll High School!

  • Lalo Medina: Extended Interview
The Third Men Podcast is proud to present an all-new extended interview with Jack White's longtime tour manager - the legendary Lalo Medina! Since The White Stripes' fateful final tour in 2007, Lalo has been helping to facilitate, arrange and execute Jack's live performances, and his insider perspective is something unique and extraordinary within the Third Man orbit. From Jack and Meg's northern sojourn chronicled in Under Great White Northern Lights, to multiple tours from The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and Jack White solo, Lalo has been instrumental in setting the stage for the performances that we as fans continue to be captivated by to this day. In this special extended interview, we'll learn of Lalo's time with groups such as Jurassic 5 and The Mars Volta, as well as amazing stories from the road that only Lalo could tell! Where does Jack hang after a Conan rehearsal? Who's the all-time trash-talk champion of the TMR sandlot games? What on earth does one do with raw caribou? The answers to these questions and more await you in the kick-off to the Third Men Podcast's season 6 (!) audio adventures. We’d like to thank Mr. Medina for joining us and hope you all enjoy this interview as much as we enjoyed recording it!
