Hello FITWR listeners, Republic City Dispatch fanatics and Storm of Spoilers/Cast of Kings fantasy nerds, we’re back for more comics discussion!
New comics enthusiast Joanna Robinson of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood and The Station Agents podcast is joined by a guy who is LLLLEEEEAAAARNNNINNNG, Da7e Gonzales of Geek.com and Latino-Review.com
No matter your level of engagement, if you’re interested in comic books and their surrounding pop culture, this show’s for you!
THIS WEEK: This week is PART 2, with the Marvel side of the comic book news and an X-Men: Apocalypse review.
SPOILER GONG WARNS YOU AT 30:55
PART 1 (Click Here) – Much ado about DC Comics. Not only has DC Rebirth #1 rebooted the universe with a twist, but Geoff Johns C.C.O. of the comics has ascended to create DC Films to oversee future film entries. Then, The Flash and Arrow fail to stick their season landings, but that doesn’t mean we’re not in a Golden Age of DC TV with Supergirl jumping to the CW in the fall. Finally, Da7e and Joanna discuss AMC’s Preacher, since Joanna loves the show and Da7e just finished a re-read of the comics.
PART 2 – Kicking things off: did Marvel really just make Steve Rogers a Hydra agent? Then, both Da7e and Joanna have seen X-Men: Apocalypse, undoubtably the oddest installment Bryan Singer has contributed to the franchise. Things they like get overshadowed by things that they don’t and the whole chain of decision making leaves everyone puzzled. Finally, SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok, we check in with the new official casting and Da7e applies that to what he thinks he knows.

THIS WEEK: Too much has happened in comics and comics related media in the past few weeks that this week’s Thought Bubble comes in two parts!

SPOILER WARNING – DO NOT START THIS EPISODE UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN OR ARE OKAY WITH PLOT DETAILS ABOUT CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
THIS WEEK: Joanna and Da7e are back, and now Joanna has seen the third Captain America movie. Before delving into a lengthy evaluation of the movie and the Sokovia Accords (Jo is #TeamCap, Da7e is #TeamIronMan), the duo stop to appreciate that Kevin Smith directed a kick-ass Zack Stentz-written episode of CW’s The Flash called “The Runaway Dinosaur.” After that, it’s all Civil War discussion, baby, yeah.

THIS WEEK: Joanna and Da7e are back, although there isn’t a ton of comic book news discussed outside of this year’s Eisner Award Nominations. Otherwise, Da7e has seen Captain America: Civil War and Joanna hasn’t so there’s a spoiler-free prep section (spoiler free in the sense that you should know Black Panther and Spider-Man are in this movie already). Then, recent Doctor Strange and Iron Fist developments has the duo revisiting how actors of Asian descent are getting the shaft. Finally, a quick jaunt through The Flash (Zoom!), iZombie (Joanna loves it!) and Agent Carter season 2 (Da7e caught up)! Oh, and The Killing Joke comes up again because WB released the trailer for the R-Rated animated Batman film.

THIS WEEK: Joanna and Da7e have reconvened to talk about the final episodes of Daredevil Season 2 and how Da7e is going to have to do something embarrassing because he made the wrong Bullseye bet. Then, Da7e makes a case for why the last two episodes of DD S2 “sh*t the bed.” After a brief period of agreeing on how much fun Supergirl and The Flash crossing over for this week’s “World’s Finest” on Monday and enjoying some silver age goodness on The Flash time travel on Tuesday, the duo finally jumps into Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. No one is going to burn the whole house down, but nobody on this was impressed with what Dawn of Justice ended up being.

THIS WEEK: He of Film School Rejects and Storm of Spoilers co-host – Neil Miller joins Da7e and Joanna to discuss Daredevil‘s second 13-episode season on Netflix. At the time we recorded this episode, we were about 24 hours from the whole season being released, so we’ve only seen 7 of the 13 total episodes of season two. FIRST, Joanna wants to know how psyched Da7e was about seeing a MCU Spider-Man in the trailer for Captain America: Civil War, then the rest of the episode is all about Daredevil Season 2!
Then, Neil and Joanna are fresh back from SXSW (some had to travel more than others) and have seen the first episode of AMC’s Preacher. They report back and…things are good!
The first section of the podcast talks about the new characters played by Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yung. Yes, this show delivers versions of The Punisher and Elektra that are unique to the Marvel Studios world and might be working much better than they ever did at other studios. Then, in a spoiler section, Da7e goes way out there with Daredevil lore and stuff we didn’t get to see (like what’s in those last 6 episodes?!?!?!). All the comic-book Daredevil talk (like speculation on The Hand) is all in the second section.
SPOILERS START AT 40 minutes 36 seconds, and they’ll take a beating until you break your hands.

THIS WEEK: SURPRISE! The reveal of Zoom’s identity on CW’s The Flash has Jo and Da7e meeting for an emergency session of The Thought Bubble, but DON’T WORRY, they have other comics stuff to talk about! Jo has been reading more Image Comics and Da7e turns a corner on Dark Knight III (and forgets the title “The Dark Knight Strikes Again“). Direct Market sales might be in jeopardy by the comics industry and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is upping the violence for a home release alternate cut. THEN, the pair dive into wild speculation about Zoom before a very quick SPOILER SECTION.

THIS WEEK: Jo and Da7e both saw DEADPOOL! And judging from the box office, so did everyone else. After answering some listener e-mails, the duo jump into discussing the new cast additions to now-shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, fantasy draft a CW team of superheroes then finally delve directly into Deadpool and what the consequences of that film’s success could be. There is NO SPOILER SECTION this week, but we do reccommend you see Deadpool first if you’re worried about plot spoilers.

THIS WEEK: Jo and Da7e are back for the pre-Deadpool Thought Bubble. Comic book movie season kicks off this FRIDAY and we’re getting ready by including some pre-movie talk about what we’re expecting. The two go through what they’ve been reading which leads to Dave’s crisis of conscience about the CEO of Marvel giving money to Donald Trump and him summing up what he thinks is happening in Batman. Joanna catches Da7e up on Agent Carter and Supergirl, and Da7e makes the case for Legends of Tomorrow before both of them geek out over the most recent episode of The Flash on the CW that took the crew to Earth-2. Finally in a VERY WELL ANNOUNCED SPOILER SECTION THIS TIME (many apologies for last time), we wonder about Infinity Stones, Thor: Ragnarok and Netflix shows.
