Chris Tatem hosts Cross Examined Life, a podcast encouraging respectful disagreement and thorough discussion of issues. In this episode, we talk about free will, the illusion of linear time, gun control, the ideal age of death, and more. Listen to Cross Examined Life: http://www.crossexaminedlife.com/ This episode is a re-upload from a podcast I previously hosted. It seemed appropriate to place here, as respectful conversation about difficult issues is undervalued in practice and is incredibly important to our educational systems and to society in general.

In interviews and exchanges with dozens of students across the country, heating and cooling issues were the most frequent complaints. But some reported much more serious problems, including vermin and mold.

Bastian and Fuller set out to examine schools with varying start times, with the goal of answering two important questions. Do later high school start times predict students’ engagement with school and their achievement in school? Do later high school start times have larger impacts on the engagement and achievement outcomes of disadvantaged student subgroups? They examined a diverse set of students and schools across urban and rural settings, including 410 unique high schools and 770,623 individual students.
