Today on the "Famous Friday Show" author Jay Payleitner checks in regarding his latest effort, Don't Take the Bait to Escalate: Conflict Is Inevitable. Being a Jerk Is Optional. Salem's July Book of the Month (which you can enter to win through this Sunday at wfil.com). He discusses questions such as "Should conflict be avoided at all costs?" and "Is reconciliation always the goal?" Payleitner also touches on the "Four Factors": 1) Decide what you really want, 2) Know the risks, 3) Empathize with your adversary, and 4) Expect the win, giving humorous examples along the way. The book offers help to people in today's world and divisive climate, and ways to resolve conflicts with family members and others. 

7-time world champion wrestler Paul Wight (aka "Big Show") also joins us to talk about the new movie Marcus (2022), a dramatic film on mental health. Wight--nearly 7 feet tall & 375+ lb--plays Gus, a security guard who tries to understand Marcus and the issues he is dealing with. Wight discusses what inspired him to do the role, his thoughts on actor Owen Miller (who plays Marcus Howard, the film's central character) and if he sees himself continuing down the path of acting. Tim adds some comments after the chat including verses from Scripture with regard to anxiety and peace (Philippians 4:4-7), hearing God's voice (John 10:1-11) and the true life offered by Christ (John 10:10, John 3:16).

Today we're joined by Pastor Mark Novales of CityReach Church (6814 Torresdale Ave in Philadelphia, www.cityreachchurch.net) to discuss the upcoming Xtend Conference on Saturday August 6 at the Liacouras Center (information and tickets at www.xtendconference.org).

We also featured the first single ("If This Is Goodbye") from the album.

Earlier in the show, Tim shares about he & his wife Tina attending the Dion DiMucci (of Dion & The Belmonts fame) concert this past Sunday as well as what Dion's music has meant to him over the years (including the Christian albums Dion released in the 80's). We're hoping to have Dion on the show at some point down the road :).

Our Famous Friday Show features two special guests, beginning with former Phillies catcher Erik Kratz. We chat about his playing days, the challenges (and benefits) of being part of over a dozen organizations, and the craft of being a catcher. Kratz, who currently is part of the Phillies' broadcast team, also shares about how his faith in the Lord has been important both professionally and personally.

Actor Amin (pronounced "AY-men") Joseph also joins the show to talk about the new movie "The Royal" in which he stars. The film is based on the true story of Willie Mays Aikens, the former Kansas City Royals slugger who hit two home runs in two different games in the 1980 World Series (which the Philadelphia Phillies won 4 games to 2, of course :)). Unfortunately, Aikens' life tumbled into drug addiction and being sentenced to the longest prison sentence ever given to a professional athlete in a drug case. "The Royal" details the long journey of Aikens as, against all odds, he seeks to re-enter civilian life and redemption--with God's help--with his estranged family, friends, the game of baseball and with himself.

We cap off our show with yet another rousing rendition of "Now THAT'S Punny!"

Brant Hansen, author of The Men We Need--God's Purpose for the Manly Man, the Avid Indoorsman, or Any Man Willing to Show Up, joins the show today. Hansen, who hosts a morning radio show syndicated on 200+ outlets across the country, writes:

"I'm here to answer a simple (but not simplistic) question: what are men supposed to actually do? This book is about a big vision for manhood. We've lacked that vision, and all of us: men--women, and children--are hurting because of it. The vision is this: we men are at our best when we are 'keepers of the garden.'"

Hansen--whose voice you may recognize from the MediShare commercials on WFIL :)-- elaborates in the book how just like Adam was charged with being keeper of the Garden of Eden, so men are to provide for and nurture their families first & foremost...and in the process, everyone around benefits as well. He is not against things sometimes associated with being manly (physical strength, outdoors-type activities, etc), but his challenge is to men--starting with himself--to serve the Lord first and care for his wife and children, in whatever ways that needs to happen. Hansen writes in a humble and humorous manner & provides much-needed (and Biblical) perspective.

In addition to his writing and radio endeavors, Hansen also works for CURE International (based in PA)--top-notch surgical hospitals run by believers which help kids with treatable conditions and share the gospel in the process.

Today on the Tim DeMoss show, we're joined by actor and comedian Dave Coulier, best known for his role as Uncle Joey on the hit 1980's sitcom Full House. Dave shares more about his lifelong friend, Full House co-star, and fellow comedian Bob Saget, who passed away earlier this year. He also fills us in on his new show, called Live + Local on Pure Flix, about a Christian local radio station K-HUGG with a staff experiencing some transitions and power shifts at work, but they handle it with grace and comedy.

Our other special guest later in the program is Jim Sonefeld, drummer for the rock band Hootie & The Blowfish. Jim has a new book out called, Swimming with the Blowfish, which is about his life as a member of the popular group, as well as some of his personal struggles he was able to over come with the help of his faith.

Today on the Tim DeMoss Show, our guest is Kim Goldman, sister of Ron Goldman, who was a murder victim alongside his friend Nicole Brown Simpson, at Brown's home in Los Angeles on June 12, 1994. Simpson’s ex-husband, OJ Simpson, was acquitted of their killings but found liable for both deaths in a civil lawsuit a few years later.

Kim has lived through one of the most high-profile murder cases in American history, having to deal with her grief in a very public manner. 28 years after her brother's tragic death, she's turned her pain into a positive mission, now serving as the co-chair of the National Center for Victims of Crime, a non-profit organization that advocates for victims’ rights and trains professionals who work with victims. She has also made appearances at CrimeCon in Las Vegas to advocate for victims and survivors. 

Goldman shares more about her new podcast, Media Circus, which connects listeners with the real people and family members of violent crime victims to share their stories, with a deeper perspective beyond media coverage.

On today’s show, Tim welcomes Garry "G" Cobb, former NFL linebacker – to discuss the highly anticipated upcoming 2022 Eagles training camp. Cobb, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and the Detroit Lions – reminisces on what training camp was like for him during his pro football days. Garry also shares his experience playing under various coaches, and how he now mentors NFL players transition and adjust to a post-football life.

Later on in the program, our other special guest, Randall Wenger, Chief Counsel of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, joins the show.

On Friday, Governor Tom Wolf vetoed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act (HB 972). Wegner explains how although the bill was vetoed -- there’s still hope for similar legislation to be passed in the future. He also provides an update on a Constitutional Amendment to protect taxpayers from paying for abortion, passing in the PA House and PA Senate on Friday. The Amendment protects current state law on abortion and empowers Pennsylvanians, not the courts, to decide how best to regulate abortion and protect women’s health.
