Authentic British military & life stories from the 1970s–2010s: Germany postings, PsyOps/Int, Afghanistan, plus rugby, skiing, Mess life—told with humour, heart, and hard-won lessons. Subscribe for veterans’ stories, training insights, and on-the-ground ops.
Ever wondered how a small team turns ideas into influence on the ground? In this episode we go from wrapping our final translation job—the Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows finale—to fielding RIAB (Radio in a Box) across Helmand, 2008 with 3 Commando Brigade. We embed with the factory, train at BFBS Chalfont, then fly into Camp Bastion to hand-deliver 14 RIAB systems—setting up and teaching live broadcasting at Lashkar Gah, Nad-e Ali, Kajaki and Musa Qala.
Inside you’ll see how PsyOps radio really works: interpreters as presenters, soldiers as producers, playlists, health spots, jingles—and the moment locals start requesting songs. Expect dust, generators, antennas, and the odd sandstorm… plus a surprise galley meet with Ross Kemp. It’s practical, funny, and brutally honest about what succeeds (RIAB) and what fails (wishful FM partnerships).
If you love real British Army stories, Afghanistan operations, Int & PsyOps, and life lived between briefings, helipads, rugby weekends, and family, this is for you. Come behind the wire and watch portable radio become a force multiplier—one village at a time.

Authentic British military and life stories from the 1970s–2010s: Germany postings, PsyOps/Int, Afghanistan, plus rugby, skiing, and Sergeants’ Mess mayhem—told with humour and hard-won lessons. Subscribe for on-the-ground ops, training insights, and veteran camaraderie.
In this episode we take you inside a no-nonsense British Army briefing that turned hard lessons into doctrine. We lay out why teams need six months’ pre-deployment training, full HQ integration, and real immersion before Helmand or Iraq—no shortcuts. We cover the essentials: every operator confident on rifle, pistol, Minimi and GPMG; every deployer Combat Team Medic capable (tourniquets, morphine autos, airways, IV under pressure); and the truth about running PsyOps in contact—part soldier, part planner, part producer.
You’ll see how we ditched “FM daydreams” for RIAB (Radio in a Box)—portable, reliable broadcasting that actually reaches villages. Inside the Training Wing and Int Cell at Chicksands, we show the grind that built capability: realistic scenarios, audience analysis, field recording, rapid edits, and measuring effects that matter.
If you love real military stories—from Afghanistan 2006–2007 to the admin machine that never sleeps—this is for you. Expect sharp truth, black humour, and the human side of service: PsyOps/Int, weapons & medic training, Camp Bastion build-up, and life that swings from briefings to Mess nights to rugby at the weekend.

Authentic British military and life stories spanning the 1970s–2010s: Germany postings, PsyOps/Int, Afghanistan & Iraq prep, plus rugby, skiing, family and Mess life. Expect humour, hard lessons, and real camaraderie from veterans who were there. Subscribe for on-the-ground missions, training insights, and true stories that go beyond the headlines.
Step onto the dusty lanes outside Lashkar Gah for a true British Army patrol that turns from tense quiet to full-blown Taliban ambush—and the long, disciplined fight that follows. We show how trust was built with locals, why interpreters (one elder statesman, one lively youngster) changed everything, and what we really saw in Helmand’s fields: wheat, cotton, veg—and some poppy, not the myth.
When contact comes—RPK bursts, RPGs, and flanking fire—we work arcs, smoke, and controlled movement until Apache close air support breaks the attack. Then it’s the honest aftermath: water, ammo counts, and the silence of a team who gave everything.
From there, ride with us through the Camp Bastion build-up, 16 Air Assault Brigade arriving in force, and a surreal reset at Kandahar Air Base Boardwalk. We link ground truth to HQ reality with PsyOps / PSE partners (Canada), and finish at Kabul / ISAF—debriefs, intel, and graft—before wheels-up home.
If you’re into real military stories, Afghanistan 2006, PsyOps/Int, and the human side of operations—this is for you.

Join us for a powerful chapter of real British military life that spans family, tradition, and deployment prep. Christmas in Sweden brings five generations under one snowy roof—carols, skiing, sauna, and chaotic New Year’s Eve joy—followed by a heartfelt farewell to Olaf and Greta. Then it’s straight back to Chicksands: pre-deployment training, Int & PsyOps briefings, and the admin machine in full roar.
We lift the lid on building modern PsyOps/Int training, sprinting between PJHQ, MOD Main Building, and even Vauxhall Cross—turning raw intel into practical packages for Helmand and Kandahar. By early 2006, Camp Bastionrises from the dust; Lashkar Gah becomes home base; and the British Task Force readies to move. It’s the truth of service: duty and family, grief and laughter, rugby bruises and parade-square pride—the rhythm that keeps soldiers human.
If you love authentic veterans’ stories, Germany postings (’70s–’10s), rugby & skiing, and the nuts-and-bolts reality of PsyOps radio, training, and deployment, this episode is for you.

Step inside real military life with a fast-paced story that jumps from Chicksands paperwork purgatory to field innovation with RIAB (Radio in a Box), and on to a gritty five-week PsyOps stint in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Expect true military stories packed with humour, resilience, and hard-won lessons—plus the chaos and camaraderie of the Sergeants’ Mess, Remembrance, and muddy midweek rugby. We round off with a full-family Swedish Julafton at the lodge—snow, glögg, and tradition done properly.
You’ll hear how small, portable PsyOps radio punched above its weight, how training went from dry slides to realistic scenarios, and why generators and jingles can make or break a mission. There’s mess dinners, Pickle Night mayhem, vets’ rugby at Thurrock, and the pride of parades—plus a candid look at post-deployment life that spans 1970s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s postings, including Germany.

In this gripping and darkly funny episode of The Parallel Four, the team rolls into Operation Telic 3 — Iraq, 2004 — where chaos meets comedy in equal measure. From endless briefings at Multinational Division South East HQ to dodging bureaucracy, boredom, and the occasional sandstorm, the four find themselves once again turning chaos into strategy.
Vinka and Marlin drive the Intelligence Cell, wrangling maps, missions, and caffeine, while Stephen and Johan hit the ground across Basra, Al Amarah, and Nasiriyah, juggling PsyOps, leaflets, and locals who trust kebab sellers more than the police. Along the way come surreal allies: Italians who fight wars over espresso, Dutch logisticians running the desert like IKEA, and the Japanese building hospitals without driving themselves anywhere.
Between firefights, sandstorms, and the world’s worst PowerPoint presentations, the team finds laughter, friendship, and perspective — even as the war refuses to play by the rules.
Expect real military life, humour under fire, and unfiltered veteran storytelling straight from the front line.

In this episode of The Parallel Four, the calm before the storm turns into full-blown chaos as the team prepares for the 2003 Iraq War. Inside the humming corridors of Chicksands, Vinka and Marlin drive the Intelligence Cell like a war room on overdrive — maps, photos, and caffeine everywhere — while Stephen and Johan push the troops through live-fire ranges, NBC drills, and battlefield medicine training.
From PowerPoint warfare to CS gas chambers, the Group ramps up for real operations in the Gulf. When deployment orders drop, it’s a mad scramble to Oman, where PsyOps takes centre stage — Safe Conduct Passes, leaflet drops, and radio broadcasts winning more hearts and minds than bullets ever could.
But it’s not all tension and training — there’s still room for pride and laughter. The team swaps desert dust for Twickenham turf, carrying the flag before England faces the All Blacks in front of 82,000 roaring fans.
Packed with true-to-life military detail, veteran humour, and a rare look behind the wire, this episode captures service life at full throttle — from war prep to rugby glory.
