Emicia Parker is an award-winning community leader, educator, speaker, writer and classically-trained fine artist. She has used pageantry as a platform to build her community and to impact the lives of youth. In 2014, Emicia was crowned Miss New York through the Miss Plus America Pageant system and in 2018, she was crowned Miss Jamaica through the Miss Plus World Pageant system. Her platform centered around empowering underserved youth.
During her reign, she advocated powerfully for those youth. She visited schools across New York, speaking to thousands of young people. She even represented them at a televised City Hall Press Conference, supporting a bill holding children's services accountable for foster youth aging out of the system. She was honored to come alongside now Attorney General Leticia James in her initiative. As a product of the foster care system herself, seeing this bill later pass was tremendously impactful for Emicia. Her continued commitment to building her community have since been rewarded with a City Council Citation, a Senate Resolution, and other meaningful accolades.
Emicia is a proud alumni of Alliance University where she earned her Bachelor's degree and went on to earn her Master's degree in Organizational leadership, which she received with honors distinction. She then went on to become an admissions counselor and later, a thesis and capstone advisor there, before transitioning to launch her own online art boutique, Empress by Emicia, after completing her Fine Arts certification at the world-renown Pratt Institute.
Empress by Emicia offers sumptuously vibrant art that celebrates the beauty and unique history of black women. Emicia is currently scaling her business while teaching workshops and ELT programs in NYC public schools, which she has done since 2014. She is also completing her certification in trauma-informed art therapy and most of her current workshops use art therapy to promote social and emotional learning in youth. Her life’s mission is to teach and inspire all, while helping the next generation of youth cultivate their unique expressions of greatness to the world.
