  • Episode 24: Testimony Time

    In episode 24, I break away from the Romans study and go back in time 2 years to play a lesson Larry taught at a church he and another elder pastored in San Jose California.

    At the end of the lesson, Larry gives his testimony.  I then welcome back Larry's daughter Joy, and Larry's oldest son John to discuss their testimonies and explain what life was like growing up in a house of grace.

    Finally we finish by recounting our favorite "Dad" stories.  This is a must listen episode, where the God's grace and goodness shines through in the lives of the Horton family.

  • Episode 23: Romans 4:1-5 "The S.E.F.S." with special guest Dr. Michael Horton

    In Episode 23, Larry continues teaching through the heart of the gospel, beginning a new chapter, covering its first four verses.

    For the discussion portion of the episode, I welcome Dr. Michael Horton, Larry's brother and the J. Gresham Machen Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics and Westminster Seminary California.

    Dr. Horton explains how Larry came to show him the Doctrines of Grace, and tells a few renegade stories of his own, due to the unpopular doctrines he had come to love just as much as Larry.

    Dr. Horton's first book, referenced in our discussion is

    Putting Amazing Back into Grace.

    The sermon by Dr. Horton referenced in our discussion can be watched on youtube here.

  • Episode 22: Romans 3:24-31 "A Scandal"
    In epidsode 22, Larry continues his teaching in Romans, covering chapter 3, verses 24-31.  In the mind of Satan, God's name was scandalized.
    How can God remain righteous and justify the sinner?  Larry preaches his sermon on Romans 3: 24-31 to answer these questions episode 22.

    During the discussion portion of the episode, I visit with Larry's granddaughter, Joy and Daniel's daughter Maria about her faith journey.  She beautifully tells the story of how she came to take on the faith of both her parents and her grandparents as her own.

    Finally, the episode ends with Larry's granddaughter Mandolin (Maria's sister) performing her arrangement of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."

  • Episode 20: The Message of the Cross is the Power of God

    In the final episode of Season 1, hear Larry preach the most heartbreaking, yet powerful sermon I've ever heard.

    Preached in the year 1992, as his oldest daughter is dying of cancer, Larry exhorts the congregation to place their hope in the scriptures, in God, in Christ's work

    on the cross, not in signs, wonders, or emotions.

    When the sermon ends, you'll hear Mandolin play "It Is Well With My Soul."

    Season Two begins Thursday, April 11th, 2024.

    Look for a Best of Guests of The TImeless Gospel Podcast episode to be released sometime in the next few weeks.

  • Episode 19: II Corinthians 3:3-18 "He Could Have Told Me"

    In episode 19, we jump ahead to the year 2004, where Larry preaches a sermon concerning the New Covenant, and its practical implications for the Christian as he fellowships with the body of believers and his family.

    I invite my husband Dave to join me during the discussion portion of the episode, and he explains what Larry meant to him.  We also talk about living our Christian lives as married to one another, with children, and how knowing the important gospel truths that Larry taught, helps us love each other and find joy in Christ.

    After the episode, I play Mandolin's arrangement of "Blest Be the Tie That Binds."

    Words below:

    1 Blest be the tie that binds

    our hearts in Christian love;
    the fellowship of kindred minds
    is like to that above.

    2 Before our Father's throne

    we pour our ardent prayers;
    our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
    our comforts and our cares.
