In today’s second hour, Todd addresses the second elephant in the room. Allegedly, Donald Trump sexually assaulted and raped a 13-year-old girl who looked like his daughter, Ivanka, who was also 13 at the time. The victim dropped her case in 2016 just days before the election after being threatened with death. This is connected with Trump’s alleged association with Jeffrey Epstein, and multiple appearances on his flight and call logs, as well as audio and video recordings. While this information isn’t pleasant to hear, the American people deserve to know what may have happened. 

To lighten (or lightning?) things up, Todd shares some tips to stay safe from lightning this summer. Stay away from water and trees during thunderstorms! Head for a metal-roofed vehicle or a sturdy building to avoid being struck. 

For July 4th, Aaron shares a firework-themed card game. In Hanabi, play your cards in order to create the perfect firework display! There’s just one twist: you can’t look at your own cards, and have to rely on hints from other players.

Today is a national holiday: Pat Kreitlow’s birthday! Civic Media News Director Terry Bell joins us to celebrate. After that, Todd and Pat reflect on some news from the MAGA movement. Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation, is now openly calling for violence. When reacting to the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity decision, he claimed that “we are in the process of the second American revolution, which will remain bloodless… if the left allows it to be.” 

At the bottom of the hour, Todd addresses one of the elephants in the room. He and Trygve Olson often sing the praises of former Republican Governor Tommy Thompson, characterizing him as a cheerleader for Wisconsin. While he did fill that role, unfortunately, he has now chosen the side of Trump and Trumpism. Todd reflects on what it is that causes people to take this reprehensible stance.

Over the weekend, we have seen more political analysts respond to Thursday’s CNN Presidential Debate. Todd consolidates some of this feedback to address concerns over whether or not Biden is fit for office. From his experience in politics, Todd believes that Joe Biden is truly our best chance to retain the democratic foundation of our country, and that to switch candidates would be foolish. While his debate performance was poor at best, President Biden’s track record speaks for itself. He is an experienced politician and considerate man who surrounds himself with competent professionals to get the job done. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is a failed businessman, sexual predator, and pathological liar with little to no knowledge of law or politics who surrounds himself with sycophants and does the first thing that comes to mind. Especially in light of the recent power grab by the conservative Supreme Court Justices, the choice could not be more clear. Hold your nose if you have to, but we must vote for Joe Biden to preserve our right to vote again in the future. 

We wrap up today’s show with audio from a recent hearing on electric vehicles. Pete Buttigieg was questioned on the success, efficiency, and so-called “mandate” of EVs, and he dispelled all rumors.

This morning, the Supreme Court released a few decisions. Among them is Donald Trump’s presidential immunity case. The Justices have ruled that the office of president does include limited immunity for official actions. However, they did not address the full extent of this immunity and did not apply it to the former president’s actions. Where does this leave the American people? 

To address the legal concerns arising from this contentious opinion, attorney Matt Flynn returns for another Monday with Matt! Ultimately, the Supreme Court is becoming more blatantly corrupt by the day, and this new decision puts democracy in dangerous territory. The dissenting opinion from Justice Sotomayor confirms the severity of the situation and the precedent that it sets. Matt takes your calls with questions on the legal fallout.

Last night’s presidential debate was a doozy! There’s no sugarcoating it: Biden had a rough night. However, just like in athletics, one poor performance does not end a career. The Democratic response has been extremely weak and pessimistic, and Todd speaks out against it. We also take some of your calls on the debate. 

At the bottom of the hour, Bradie Ewing comes to bring some positivity to our weekend. As a former Badger and NFL fullback, he knows a lot about what it takes to succeed. Having spent a lot of his NFL career injured, he also has a lot of experience overcoming disappointment and adversity. Bradie shares some of his encouraging wisdom with us.

Yesterday, we played some audio of “OC” Eric Hovde on Juneteenth, claiming that he knows “Black culture” because he’s spent time in Africa helping homeless shelters and getting kids off the streets. After being confronted about this befuddling statement, Hovde himself appeared briefly confused before doubling down on his claims. He says that he has donated significant amounts of money to Black schools and charities that help people of color. Essentially, he’s gone from saying “I understand Black people because I’ve been to Africa” to saying “I understand Black people because I’ve written a few checks to them.” Is that really any better? 

Todd also updates us on how exactly Hovde acquired his fortune. It appears that he used offshore tax loopholes to avoid paying his fair share. What’s worse: that Eric Hovde understands Black people because he’s written a few checks, or that he got the money by scamming Americans?
