The Top 10 Reasons To Write Your Own Book (If you're a business owner or entrepreneur)

The truth of the matter is, there aren’t a lot of business owners in the MENA region who are writing books and sharing their entrepreneurial story with others who want to follow in their footsteps.  Most business books from the region are written by professional authors or academics.  They’re missing the real-world experience you get from someone who has walked the path of a business owner.  And that real-world experience is what can inspire and change the lives of other entrepreneurs.

If you’ve ever thought about writing a book – or even if you haven’t - these are our top 10 reasons to put telling your story on your bucket list.

“The book that will most change your life is the book you write.”  Seth Godin.

  1. Make a difference

Imagine a young teenager reading your book and something resonates with her and changes the trajectory of her life.  Or a young college student takes a small idea from your book and turns it into his own entrepreneurial success.  People look to business books to help them answer questions or to learn something new that they can apply to their life or their business.  Your book could hold the answer someone else is looking for.

  1. Create a lasting legacy

Regardless of the size of your business, your book leaves a lasting reminder of what you built and learned along the way.  It can be a legacy for your family, employees, and your community who were all impacted – directly or indirectly – by your business and your story.

  1. Books change lives

How do you best share 10 years’ worth of your stories and experiences with others so they can benefit from them?  In a book.  The reader can take in all of your lessons with 5 hours of reading.  That’s a lot of life and business lessons in a short time that can propel the reader forward on their own journey.

  1. Books stand the test of time

It’s hard for people to throw away or get rid of books.  Even if we don’t keep hundreds of books on our own bookshelves, we'll give them to someone else who can also benefit from it.  Today, we still have books from 100’s of years ago in museums and libraries filled with book – each read by hundreds of people.

  1. Books are telepathic

Reading someone’s thoughts and stories creates a special bond between the reader and writer.  Readers feel like they develop a relationship with the author and get to know them.  When we read, someone else’s words and thoughts are almost downloaded into our brain to use and benefit from.

  1. Stand out from your competition

Books can be great marketing tools for your business.  They help your customers understand more about what it’s like to work with you without starting the sales process.  Books offer credibility and help establish you as a thought leader in your industry.

  1. More sales and better clients

When you use a book to help establish your position as a thought leader, it can generate new sales from the kind of clients who your story resonates with.

  1. Open the door to high end consulting

You must put something out there for people to look to you for high end consulting expertise.  A book is a great way to make it clear what your experience is and what your knowledge and expertise can do for others.  Books build credibility.

  1. Keynote speaking opportunities

If speaking is your thing, being an entrepreneur and an author helps you stand out.  It also gives conference and event planners the opportunity to glimpse into what you’d talk about at their events.

  1. It’s a great content marketing tool

Niche content really helps you grow your business.  A book can be a highly valuable piece of content that you use at important stages in your marketing.  Your book can even be published to your website in different formats.
